深入解读

Bulge 源自拉丁语 bulga （皮包），作名词主要表示“从某物上突出形成的圆形凸起”，比如夹克里鼓起一把枪（the bulge of a gun in one's jacket）。

夹克里鼓起一把枪看起来着实危险，但这种场面一般很少见，往往更为常见的是上衣里鼓起的啤酒肚等“身体的肥胖或发胖部位”，比如一条把发胖部位全显出来的紧裙子（a tight skirt that shows all one's bulges）。

啤酒肚的罪魁祸首是暴饮暴食，其他事物的鼓起也不例外，都是突然的增长超过了自然发展的承受范围，所以 bulge 还可以用来表示“突然暴涨、暂时的激增”，比如出生率暴增（a bulge in the birth rate）。
