5th of the Spatial Humanities lecture series

Dr. CHEN Jing from Nanjing University will be invited to deliver a guest lecture on the third class of the “Spatial Humanities and Digital Humanities” English course in the autumn semester of the academic year 2020-21 in School of Architecture, Tianjin University.

Topic of the lecture will be "Digital Humanities and Humanity Big Data" and introduce basic concepts and a brief history of Digital Humanities (DH) while discussing DH features and innovations.

Chen Jing | Associate professor

Dr. CHEN Jing is an associate professor in School of Arts of Nanjing University. Her main research interests include culture and media studies, digital humanities for new media art, etc. Dr. Chen is an experienced DH scholar as well as a proactive pioneer in this field in Mainland and Great China regions.

Course Introduction

The English course "spatial humanities and digital humanities" for international students in master and PhD programmes in School of Architecture of Tianjin University is a parallel course to her sister Chinese version in the spring semester starting from the academic year 2019-20. The twin courses are one of the first courses on similar topics provided around the world. 
The course is focusing on the international academic trend of digital approaches in social and humanities studies for investigating interactions between space and people, which means place(s) in planning, architecture, landscape, geography and other social and humanity fields. Applications of digital technologies in history, archaeology, arts, literature, religion, and so on will be introduced. GIS, text mining, social network analysis, data visualization with case studies in different social and humanities fields will be mentioned.
"Spatial humanities and digital humanities"是天津大学建筑学院全英文研究生课程体系中提供给三个专业的硕、博士国际学生的选修课（也开放予其他体系研究生修读），与于2019-20学年春季学期首次开设的“空间人文与数字人文”硕士选修课（S2068057）作为孪生姊妹课程，是大中华地区最早开设的“空间人文”（spatial humanities）课程之一。
