Walking into Qingshen (group poems)
Bamboo Plaiting Articles of Non-Material Cultural Heritage
From the moment of starting
The purpose of the trip is uttered time and again
Go to Qingshen to find a dense bamboo grove
The evening comes as expected
Eventually to approach the bamboo grove
Father’s solicitous words for me are carried here in the wind
You have to wield a knife which is used to cut bamboo strips
And you have to fell a bamboo
You have to learn to be an excellent handicraftsman of bamboo strips
Sitting in the night
I fabricate the bamboo strips knife into a lightning
To split a bamboo
From thick bamboo strips to thin ones
From thin ones to bamboo filaments
They are thin like cicada’s wings and thin like hair
Now I begin to recall
The handicraft and glory left behind by predecessors
How to weave a bamboo lantern
How to weave more bamboo lanterns
And those relatives who labor through the night
To carefully work a batch of bamboos
To weave the longest bamboo dragon in the world
From the dragon head to dragon tail
From the body to scales
Each detail is adequate to spread far and near
Who can tell me
How to use millions of bamboo filaments
To weave Riverside Scene at the Pure Moon Festival
What about the Painting of Ladies with Head-pinned Flowers
And the Painting of Eight Steeds
As well as the Painting of Rich Spring Mountain of superb craftsmanship
When I store up the bamboo strips knife
When I sleep in the depth of night
To dream again the building, pavilion and boat of bamboos
Zhongyan Through the Years
Great Chinese poet Lu You says
This is the first mountain in the south of Sichuan Province
Another great Chinese poet Fan Chengda says
This is the best scenic spot in the west of Sichuan Province for its forests and springs
About Zhongyan of Qingshen
What more can I say
Not far from the southeast of Qingshen
By the east shore of Minjiang River
To see green peaks interlaced with profound ravines
To listen to clear water babbling over stones
I say the scenery here is beautiful
I say the scenery here is delightful
I also want to say on a morning of the Northern Song Dynasty
In the academy of Zhongyan
Through a wooden window
To see famous poet Su Shi engaged in study
I want to call him
When my teacher’s scold wafts without the window
A rigorous teacher fails
To resist the temptation of love
By the fishing pool below the academy
To see fishes swimming and frolicking
Waiting for my teacher’s daughter to sail here
Su Shi has disclosed the secret of the first love
This is Zhongyan
A legendary place for the alliance of fishes
Actually great Chinese poet Li Bai has passed by here
And famous Chinese poet Huang Tingjian has come out of adoration for its fame
Hence Zhongyan Through the Years
And it is pregnant with beauty and productive of talents
Hanyang Lake
Close by the water system of Mount Min
No difference between a huge tree
To the southwest of Qingshen County
To scoop lake water in palms
To guess its headstream
To again look afar at its destination
Min River as its primary vein
The ancient town as a place of various attractions
Pastoral scene is its natural charm
Hanyang Lake is always engaged in a new conception
Some scenery
To conceive the landscape yearned in your heart
That is another road back to hometown
On the way
Great dream interpreter Zhougong comes along his familiar path
The Patron of Agriculture and silkworm master Can Cong talk bombastically along the way
Du Kang, yes, wine mater Du Kang
Will drink wine concocted with orange juice
Beautiful lake scenery, fair mountain-scape
Drinkers are drunk, if not with wine, with the scenery
You have passed through the ancient town of Hanyang
Have walked through the vast field
Expectant of a great sea
Waiting for a spring warm with flowers
No better than to face the water of Hanyang Lake
To see the dragon boat rowing from the Dragon Boat Festival to the horizon
When the night curtain falls
By the water there is to be a retainer of any side
The memory village of Hanyang Lake, made along the water
To find a tent in the riverside yard
Thus to unburden my worries
In my dream to retrace the home of my soul
Riverside Divine Wood Garden
By the east of Min River
Beneath my feet the ground is with a growth of glass
To imagine the touching landscape in the sunshine
Glittering waves are a sure thing
Rippling waters are a sure thing
When I look afar at the Zhongyan through thousands of years
When I look afar at the peaks upon peaks of Longquan Mountain
The color of the mountain is misty and empty
When I think of something
A constant imitating of Ming- and Qing-dynasty style
From blue bricks
To white walls and grey tiles
From flying eaves and protruding angles
To carved beams and painted rafter, as well as winding paths lead to quiet seclusion
How many hills & rills and flowers & birds you have arranged
And how many poems and songs,
To see ancient trees towering to the skies
And divine trees after trees
Interspersed with wondrous stones to prove what
I see a tree a huge tree falling down
See it drowned in the river water
And covered up by sands and rocks
And I begin my long waiting
Perhaps three thousand years
Perhaps millions of years
When river water recedes
When they lift sands and rocks
I see a tree turning into a rock
They say it is the ebony wood
They say it is the Oriental divine wood
