Cui Rongde[China]
I Envy (and other four poems)
I envy those who make fire out of wood
I envy those who shake gold and diamonds off their coarse cloth
I envy the oasis formed in the desert
I envy the grass and the ants as well
Whose humbleness is enough to destroy all
The so-called nobleness
I envy the dust, which helps to light up the whole world
I envy anything worthy of envy
Including myself
So Many Snowflakes Keep Falling
So many snowflakes keep falling
Falling to the low-lying areas of the world, falling to
The edge of the earth. If like this
They keep falling day and night, it must be me
That they’ve chosen
They fall into my heart, even
Cover my whole body. I know
Among so many snowflakes, one must be
Of my surname
They will completely devour the low-lying coldness
At the black edge. So many snowflakes
Falling, I suddenly feel soft and light
As if I joined
The huge force of army
Winter Is a Tree
Winter is a tree
With its petals all white
Dancing in the air when the wind blows
Winter is a tree, with beautiful and cool flowers
Yet not everyone can enjoy the fragrance
Winter is a tree, whose fruit
Is called Spring
The Sound of Blooming
The sound of blooming, the flowers cannot hear
But the flower growers know best
The sound of blooming, in the starry night
Those that bloom in the broad daylight
Mostly make no sound
The sound of blooming, after the blossom falling it takes decades
Or even thousands of years to spread all over the flower world
Walking Against the Light
Walking against the light, we keep our footsteps
In the air and return our heads to ourselves
Eye contact, and peace of mind
In ancient times, we rode in a carriage
Our thoughts wheeling along the long post road
As it turns green gently, under the sun
Clusters of Autumn is ripe in the same way
For hundreds or even thousands of years
All the backlit walks gather in front of my window
And I am still alive
