Student Graduated from Tsinghua University Applied for Babysitter Job?
In June, 2021, the resume of a graduate from Tsinghua University, a top Chinese university, QS 14, seeking work as a domestic helper has stunned internet users.
Your Trust Home Service, a Shanghai-based high-end housekeeping company, released the resume of the graduate, whose identity was later found redacted, on a recruitment platform on Wednesday and quickly generated online discussion, news portal Thepaper reported.
According to the resume, the job applicant is Jing Li, 29 years old, with a bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University, speaking Mandarin and English. Having been working as nanny and babysitter since 2016, she has once been “assistant” to take care of a 1-year-old child in Shanghai’s high-end residential area “Tomson Riviera”, and later “housekeeper” for a family of three in another luxury residential district in Shanghai, “Jiujiantang.” The required monthly salary was 35,000 yuan. The resume was once viewed as a sign of the increasingly competitive jobs market for new graduates.
Several days later, however, the housekeeping company involved was suspected of false propaganda and was investigated. The Songjiang District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau stated that it has been involved in the incident.
Yesterday, September 27, 2022, news came that an administrative penalty was finally made against the housekeeping company, for the commercial advertisement written under the above title was found to be false. According to the relevant provisions of the Anti-Unfair Competition Law, the company was fined 200,000 yuan.
According to investigation, the company wrote a commercial advertisement under the title of “Tsinghua - Babysitter Auntie [35k] Housekeeper” without any formal job application and resume from Tsinghua graduates. The name and photo of “Jing Li” were both fictitious, altogether with the education background. As for the working experience, the “Tomson Riviera” domestic service was provided by an employee of this company but not Tsinghua student “Jing Li”, while the experience in “Jiujiantang” is totally a fiction.
