The US Federal Trade Commission will sue to block Microsoft’s $75bn acquisition of video game maker Activision Blizzard over concerns the deal would harm competitors to its Xbox consoles and cloud-gaming business.
美国联邦贸易委员会(FTC)将提起诉讼，阻止微软(Microsoft)以750亿美元收购电子游戏制造商动视暴雪(Activision Blizzard)，理由是担心该交易将损害微软游戏业务——包括Xbox游戏机和云游戏业务——的竞争对手。
The antitrust watchdog voted 3-1 to issue the complaint, it said on Thursday. It is the latest in a number of hurdles for the transaction, which is also being scrutinised by the UK Competition and Markets Authority and the European Commission.

“Today we seek to stop Microsoft from gaining control over a leading independent game studio and using it to harm competition in multiple dynamic and fast-growing gaming markets,” Holly Vedova, director of the FTC’s bureau of competition, said in a statement.

US basketball star Brittney Griner was freed in a prisoner swap with Russia on Thursday, a diplomatic breakthrough in Russia’s more than nine-month war with Ukraine.
美国篮球明星布里特妮•格里纳(Brittney Griner)周四借助美国与俄罗斯达成的换囚交易获释，这是俄乌战争爆发9个多月以来终于取得的一项外交突破。
Griner was released in exchange for Viktor Bout, an imprisoned Russian arms dealer who was serving a 25-year sentence.
作为格里纳获释的交换条件，美国释放了在狱中服刑、刑期为25年的俄罗斯军火商维克托•布特(Viktor Bout)。
US president Joe Biden wrote on Twitter on Thursday he had spoken with Griner. “She is safe. She is on a plane. She is on her way home,” he said, along with photos of the basketball player’s wife Cherelle Griner in the Oval Office.

UK retail investment funds are heading towards their first full year of contraction in more than a decade, including during the financial crisis, with withdrawals already topping £25.8bn in the 10 months to October.

Funds have seen net monthly outflows for most of this year, with modest inflows reported only around the end of the financial year in April, when some investors top up their tax-free Isa holdings, according to data released this week by the Investment Association, an industry body.

European interior ministers on Thursday approved Croatia’s membership of the bloc’s border-free Schengen zone, eliminating checks at the frontiers of the Adriatic nation, one of Europe’s busiest tourist destinations.
周四，欧盟各国内政部长批准克罗地亚加入欧盟申根区(Schengen zone)，取消了这个亚得里亚海国家、也是欧洲最繁忙的旅游目的地之一的边境检查。
“Finally,” Croatian interior minister Davor Božinović told N1 television in Brussels. “Croatian citizens are entering the largest zone of free movement in the world.”

But the bloc rejected bids from Balkan neighbours Romania and Bulgaria. Zagreb would have liked for Romania and Bulgaria to join this year as well, Božinović said, adding “the fact is that no consensus was reached”.
