What's happening in Shanghai?





Shanghai reports 11 new coronavirus cases, total hits 193



Another 11 people in the city have been confirmed infected with coronavirus, raising the total number to 193, and 60 suspected cases have been ruled out, Shanghai's health authority said on Monday morning.

Passengers must wear masks, take temperature checks at Metro stations



Nine local Metro stations will start checking passengers’ temperatures from Monday and the measure will be expanded to other stations soon.


The first checkpoints have been set up at local transport hubs including at Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Hongqiao international airport.

Foreign couple released from quarantine site



A foreign couple has become the first to be discharged from a quarantine group in Jing’an District.


A brief farewell meeting was held for the couple, whose identity has not been disclosed, on January 30.

Mandatory registration for all arrivals in Shanghai



All people entering Shanghai will now have to register via mobile phone, the city’s transportation commission said on Saturday.


This measure covers all who enter Shanghai via road, rail or air, including residents returning from out of town, to curb the spread of coronavirus.

China sees 2,829 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection, 57 new deaths



Chinese health authorities Monday said it received reports of 2,829 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 57 deaths on Sunday from 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.


Among the deaths, 56 are in Hubei Province and one in southwest China's Chongqing, according to China's National Health Commission.

Philippines reports world’s 1st virus death outside China



The first death outside China from the new coronavirus was recorded Sunday in the Philippines, as countries around the world evacuated hundreds of their citizens from the infection zone and Chinese authorities completed a new, rapidly constructed 1,000-bed hospital for victims of the outbreak.

China builds new hospital in 10 days to combat coronavirus



China has built a makeshift hospital in 10 days to battle against the novel strain of coronavirus in Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus outbreak in central China's Hubei Province.


Huoshenshan (Fire God Mountain) Hospital was delivered Sunday in Wuhan. It is dedicated to treating patients infected with the virus.

Novel coronavirus may spread via digestive system: Experts



Chinese experts warned that the novel coronavirus could be transmitted through the digestive system, according to the latest findings.


They found viral nucleic acids in patients' stool and rectal swabs after they noticed that the initial symptom of some patients infected with the coronavirus was diarrhea only, instead of a fever, which is more common.
