Fall Sink or Float Experiment 浮沉大猜

I have always been wanting to introduce STEAM activities to my toddler, but thought she’s too young, and I wasn’t sure where to start. This simple to set up Sink or Float Experiment is a great science activity for toddlers and pre-schoolers. And since its fall time, we decided to make it a fall-themed Sink or Float Activity (but you can do it with any materials you like).

我一直想要给宝宝介绍STEAM活动，但是一直感觉她太小了，也不知道怎么开始。但幼儿园阶段其实就是STEAM教育的萌芽阶段。然后找到这个很简单的实验，浮沉大猜，非常适合幼儿和已经上幼儿园的孩子。因为现在是秋天的季节，我选的材料都和秋天有关（但你可要随便选材料）。

Why STEAM? Which is science, technology, engineering, art, and math.  When it all comes together itmakes up STEAM. STEAM is really STEM with the addition of Art. Why is STEAM so important? Because STEAM gets the creative juices flowing! Kids are thinking, doing, creating, exploring, observing, and learning!

为什么STEAM？ STEAM就是科学、技术、工程、艺术、数学。放在一起就STEAM，以前STEAM是STEM，但很多人喜欢加上艺术。为什么STEAM就是那么重要呢？因为STEAM会给孩子学会创造力的机会！孩子会去思想、考虑、实验、创造、探索、观察和学习！

SINK or FLOAT SCIENCE EXPERIMENT (AND SENSORY PLAY)

To set up this activity, you will need a large container filled with water and a range of floating and sinking objects (we chose fall-themed items this time).

The objects we included for this science activity:

• Small and big apples

• Orange

• mini pumpkins

• acorns

• walnuts

• fake leaves (but you could use real ones, too, of course)

• pinecones

• stones and gems

• cinnamon sticks

• wooden cubes

After experimenting with the different objects floating and sinking, allow some time for your child to play freely with the water, containers and objects.  Add other toys such as cars and characters to the play opportunity.  Kids absolutely love to play with water!

·        小南瓜

·        松果

·        核桃

·        仿真树叶（当然也可以用真树叶）

·        小石头

·        肉桂根

·        积木
