【威胁情报】暗网情报创企Terbium获投$600万

【171129 ESecurityPlanet】Terbium Labs, a Baltimore-based cybersecurity startup, announced today that it secured $6 million in a round of financing headed by Glasswing Ventures. To date, the company has attracted $15 million in investments.

The new funding is earmarked to help Terbium Labs expand into new markets, grow its managed security service provider (MSSP) partner ecosystem and continue development on Matchlight, the company's dark web data monitoring and threat intelligence system. Matchlight employs artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to scour the dark web for evidence of data leaks and breaches that may affect businesses and their users.

The dark web is as shadowy as it sounds. Out of the purview of search engines and  accessible using software tools like Tor, the dark web is home to illicit marketplaces, some of which peddle malware code, personally identifiable information and stolen credentials.

"As the dark web expands, automation is key to keeping up where human analysts cannot," said Danny Rogers, co-founder and CEO of Terbium Labs, in a Nov. 29 announcement. "Matchlight computes billions of data fingerprints every day and alerts customers within minutes when elements of their data appear somewhere they shouldn't."

The automated system uses the company's Data Fingerprinting technology to detect and organization's data online without first requiring access to an organization's sensitive information.

"It shifts the balance of power from the adversary to the enterprise by providing the tools to rapidly identify fraud and data theft privately and affordably," continued Rogers. "With the new capital from Glasswing Ventures and their expertise, contacts, and resources in the AI security market, we will continue to build our robust dark web index and world-class leadership team and ensure any organization with critical data and confidential information is protected."

Cybersecurity vendors are increasingly training their sights on the dark web in a bid to help enterprises prevent authorized access to their networks.

Somerville, Mass. cyber-threat intelligence firm Recorded Future recently raised $25 million. The company monitors the on the dark web, among other sources, to keep businesses from becoming victims to publicly unknown threats and potential breaches.

In August, AlienVault unveiled a new AlienApp for Dark Web Monitoring for its USM (Unified Security Management) Anywhere solution. The solution monitors the dark web for stolen credentials by seeking out email addresses pertaining to an organization's domain.
