Last Friday, a 52-year-old man in Shenzhen surnamed Li went through what was likely one of the creepiest experiences in his life.

According to Shenzhen Evening News, Li felt discomfort in his ear at 3am that morning, but instead of going to the hospital immediately, he endured it for six hours.

When he finally caved and went to Shenzhen’s Pingshan Hospital, a doctor surnamed Shang discovered a 2-centimeter-long, live cockroach in Li’s ear. See footage of the insect through Shang’s endoscope below (VPN off):

“It's alive, it’s still moving!” a female medical staff member can be heard saying in the video.

According to Sohu, because cockroach bodies are very soft, Dr. Shang had to use tweezers to pull the bug apart piece by piece. She took out its legs first, then the bottom half of its body, and removed the head last.

“The cockroach’s head was still moving when it was taken out,” Dr. Shang told Sohu. In case the cockroach had laid eggs, the doctor also thoroughly disinfected Li’s ear canal.

Shang informed Sohu that, in the event that someone gets an insect stuck in their ear, they can try turning off the lights and using a flashlight to lure it out.

“If it’s too big, don’t blindly pick your ear, try to use oil or medicinal alcohol to kill it. But you also need to come to the hospital ASAP,” Shang added.
