First responders in South China are reminding people not to climb out of high-rise windows without a safety harness after a man in Foshan did just that to retrieve his stranded son.

On August 15, according to Guangzhou Daily, a 6-year-old boy climbed out the window of his family’s eighth floor apartment after he heard noises and assumed “bad guys” had broken into the flat.

Once outside, the young whippersnapper lowered himself onto the AC unit of the apartment directly beneath his family’s place.

The unnamed boy was home alone at the time, and when his mother returned from dropping his sister off at school, she was understandably distraught to find her son hanging off the side of the apartment building.

This is where dad comes in: the boy’s mother, surnamed Huang, called both emergency services and her husband. The child’s father immediately left his place of work and was home “within 10 minutes,” according to Daily Mail

Instead of waiting for first responders to arrive, though, the spider-dad climbed out the window and down to the seventh floor AC unit where his son was clinging on for dear life.

When firefighters arrived, the boy was roped up before climbing back to his family’s eighth-floor flat. Dad was rescued immediately afterwards, according to Guangzhou Daily.

Daily Mail notes that police have yet to comment on whether any evidence of a burglar was found in the apartment.
