Have you ever fallen asleep on a subway? Nah, us neither. But on Tuesday night on Shenzhen’s Longgang Metro Line this exact situation unfolded, with a man going into full hibernation mode on a train’s bench seat.

Below, watch this man claim valuable real estate along one of Shenzhen’s busiest metro lines during peak hours (VPN off):

According to Mr. Zhu, the bystander who filmed the video above, when he boarded the train at Laojie Station he immediately saw the man sprawled out on the bench. No one dared go near the slumbering commuter and he remained laying down for a total of 11 stops, until reaching Tangkeng Station.

At one point during the trip, he even lit a cigarette. He smoked it for a bit, before putting it out and wedging it behind his ear. The man appeared inebriated and, well, sleepy.

Netizens voiced their resentment over the man’s stunt. One Weibo user commented, “This person should be blacklisted from riding any kind of public transportation.”

Other users voiced skepticism that a ban from public transport would be possible. “Not in your wildest dreams, how would the metro even enforce that, make everyone scan their ID card,” someone responded.

Another commenter defended the man, saying, “You have no idea what he’s been through.”
