'Avengers' Rakes in Over ¥523 Million in First 24hrs in China
By Ryan Gandolfo
Avengers: Endgame brought in more than RMB523 million in the first 24 hours following its Chinese debut on Wednesday at midnight.
According to the Bank of China International, cited by Xinhua, the finale’s estimated box office revenue is expected to reach over RMB3.5 billion in the Chinese mainland. If that total is met, it would nearly exceed the combined box office revenue from the two prior Avengers movies, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War.
It has been a wild week for fans of the popular film series, with a number of crazy stories surfacing over the past couple of days. For example, one female college student in Ningbo was rushed to hospital after ‘crying up a storm’ throughout the three-hour-long film. The woman reportedly began hyperventilating after the movie had finished, at which point, her friends called ‘120’ and she was rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Avengers fans dying to discuss the dirty details of the latest superhero flick have turned to subscription WeChat groups. According to Sixth Tone, people have been paying less than RMB1 to join Avengers: Endgame discussion groups to chat about the movie.
