2023 BGI POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM FOR NON-CHINESE CITIZENS

The 2023 BGI postgraduate program is seeking PhD candidates in Genomics as well as Master candidates in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Biology and Medicine.

BGI’s postgraduate program offers opportunities to participate in global scientific projects, as well as a gateway to connect with the best and brightest minds in the global life sciences industry.

An information session regarding our program and application will be conducted at a Teams meeting on 27 December 2022 at 5 PM (UTC +8). Meanwhile, two of BGI superviors will be there introducing their research:

1. Gut Microbiota, introduced by Prof. Fang Xiaodong, Vice President of BGI Research

2. Single-Cell Omics and beyond, introduced by Prof. Hou Yong, President of BGI Group Europe

ABOUT US

BGI is a world’s leading life science and genomics corporation. According to 2022 Nature Index, BGI has topped the Asia Pacific life science corporation, and ranks eighth among global life science corporation.

In 2012, BGI started to collaborate with the college of life sciences, UCAS and nurtured postgraduate students. Currently we have 354 students in total, and 271 masters and 77 PhDs have been graduated from this program.

They have published more than 500 scientific papers on top journals such as Science, Nature and Cell. Besides, more than 150 patents and more than 40 software copyrights were from these students. 

Our four disciplines (Molecular Biogenetics, Clinical Medicine, Biology and Biochemistry, Plant and Animal Sciences) have entered the top 1% of ESI in the world.

WHAT WE OFFER

Based on the advanced scientific research results, a solid theoretical framework consisting of Genomics, Single-cell omics, and Spatiotemporal omics has been developed.

D. BGI Postgraduate Stipends

*The BGI stipends are not applicable to awardees of UCAS Scholarship, ANSO Scholarship and Chinese Government Scholarship.

E. BGI Merit-based scholarships on a competitive basis 

Master candidates: CNY 5,000-20,000 per person 

PhD candidates: CNY 10,000-30,000 per person

*Each year, around 5% of all current students will be awarded. 

*This scholarship is applicable to awardees of any other scholarships. 

F. Teaching Assistantships

Teaching assistants at BGI receive a stipend rate of CNY100 per hour.

*Tuition Fee: 

CNY 30,000/year (Master Program); 

CNY 40,000/year (PhD Program)

The tuition fee will be waived for the awardees of UCAS Scholarship, ANSO Scholarship and Chinese Government Scholarship.
