With a civilization of over 5,000 years, Xuzhou was built 2,600 years ago and is the earliest city in Jiangsu Province.
Xuzhou was one of the nine states of the country over 3,000 years ago.
Xuzhou is the city of Han culture, the hometown of Liu Bang (256-195BC), the first emperor of Western Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty was divided into Eastern Han and Western Han periods (206BC-189AD) lasting for over 400 years.
During which the enfeoffed kings to Xuzhou left numerous historical heritages, including Han clay figurines, Han stone relief carvings and Han Tombs, which are called "Three Wonders of the Han Dynasty". They are representatives of the Chinese Han culture.

Guishan Han Tomb
Guishan Han Tomb is a tomb where Liu Zhu, the king of the 6th chu
kingdom of Western Han Dynasty, was buried with his wife more than 2,000
years ago. The burial ground is 83 m long from east to west and is up
to 33 m from south to north at its broadest, while the total area
reaches over 700 sqm, almost tunneling the entire mountain body. There
are totally 15 small and large trenchant primary and secondary tomb
chambers, and the bedroom, living room, stable and kitchen are fully
furnished in order, just like a magnificent underground palace.
Han Dynasty Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum
Han Dynasty Terracotta Warriors and Horses is another great discovery
following the Qin Dynasty Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Xi’an City.
As the mortuary objects for King Chu more than 2,150 years ago, the
thoughts, expressions and emotions of soldiers in Han army are vividly
portrayed in an impressionistic style, thereby possessing a higher value
for artistic appreciation.
Lion Rock Chu King’s Tomb
Lion Rock Chu King’s Tomb is the tomb of Liu Wu, the third generation of
Chu King, ruling a feudal fiefdom in the early period of Western Han
Dynasty, 2,100 years ago, 300m away from the west of which the Han
Dynasty Terracotta Warriors and Horses signifies the garrison army of
Chu King’s Tomb.
Stone Tomb with Han Portrait
The stone-carved portrait is a kind of embellishing form of Han tomb,
while Han tomb is a main carrier of Han Dynasty Stone Relieves. More
than 20 stone tombs with Han portraits have been discovered in Xuzhou.
The stone-carved portraits in the tomb are rich in content, exquisite
and superior in carving techniques and have an extremely high value for
archeological and artistic appreciation.
Han Dynasty Stone Relieves Gallery
As one of the centralized regions for China’s Han Dynasty Stone
Relieves, Xuzhou totally has unearthed more than 700 Han Dynasty Stone
Relieves, while Xuzhou Han Dynasty Stone Relieves Gallery is a special
museum for collecting, exhibiting and researching the Han Dynasty Stone
Relieves. This gallery covers an area of 10,000 sqm and is composed of a
set of architectural complex simulated from Han and Tang Dynasties, and
now has collected more than 500 rare Han Dynasty Stone Relieves.
Xuzhou Han Town
Situated in the northwest of the urban area, Xuzhou Han Town covers an area of about 160,000 sqm and is a large typical antique architectural complex that reproduces the style of Han Dynasty. The entire design is simple and unsophisticated, magnificent and spectacular. Over 10 kinds of theatrical performances like Grand Ceremony of Han Palace and King Han Gathering and Reviewing Soldiers are performed at a designated time every day in Han Town, reproducing the majesty of Han Palace and the magnificent battle scene of marching cavalries and shouting soldiers.
Xuzhou Museum
A large quantity of exquisite cultural relics of Han Dynasty is
unearthed in Xuzhou, among which the jade burial suit sewn with fine
silver wires, the gilt inkstone in the shape of animals and the bronze
bull lamp are known as rare treasures. Xuzhou Museum is situated at the
northern foot of the beautiful Yunlong Mountain, while the building area
is up to 12,000 sqm. Its former address is the former site of temporary
imperial palace for brief stays, where the Emperor Qianlong of Qing
Dynasty once lived when he toured in Southern China. With tranquil
environment and superior facilities, this museum has collected more than
1,000 precious cultural relics of all types, the scale and the grade of
which are regarded as second to none in Jiangsu Province.
Yunlong Mountain
Yunlong Mountain, which is 3 km long and is composed of nine sections of
mountain tops, derives its name from wandering dragon and wreathing
cloud and mist. There are green pines and cypresses in the mountain,
blocking off the sunshine, in which temples and terraces are immersed.
There are many places of historical interest in the mountain: Crane
Pavilion, Dongpo Stone Bed, Xinghua Temple, Great Being Rock, Scenery
Viewing Platform, Yunlong College, etc.
Xinghua Temple
With its original name of Shifu Temple, Xinghua Temple was initially
built in the Kaiyuan years of Tang Dynasty and now has numerous
historical sites after generations. Xinghua Temple is famous for
"Three-foot’s Buddha Covered by Three Temple Bricks". A large stone
Buddha statue of the Northern Wei Dynasty with a height of 11.52 m that
was carved along the cliff is propitiated in the lofty Grand Hall, but
the back wall of the temple hall is built by ledges and the rear eaves
that are away from the stony cliff are only built by three lines of
bricks, so getting its good reputation "Three-foot’s Buddha Covered by
Three Temple Bricks". Moya Carved Stone of the Tang Dynasty is
exquisitely preserved between the cliffs in the temple.
Annual Temple Fair at Yunlong Mountain(on 19th of second lunar month)
This temple fair, originated from the ceremony of the Avalokitesvara’s
birthday, was held on Yunlong Mountain in 1719. It has gradually
developed into a grand folk-custom activity integrating commerce,
tourism, religion, entertainment, folk arts and become one of the
largest folk gatherings in the Huaihai Economic Zone.
Yunlong Lake
Yunlong Lake is located in the south of Xuzhou City, now having a water
surface area of 6.76 sq km and a land area of 5.6 sq km; the wide water
shines under the sun and the three sides of it are surrounded by the
green mountains and the overlapped green trees.
Binhu Park
With a length of 4,038 m and a width of 140 m, it has the greening area
of more than 80% and is a modern high-tech paradise integrated with
tourism, restaurant and vacation.
Yunlong Park
Covering an area of 361 mu, it faces Yunlong Mountain in the east. By
adopting the layout method of natural garden, it consists of 6 scenic
spots of a Miniature Garden, Zhichun Island, Lotus Pavilion, Artificial
Hillock and Flower Corridor, Flower Garden, and Recreation Area, and in
this park, it has the famous historical sites such as Swallow Pavilion
and Imperial Tomb and so on.
Quanshan Forest Park
Quanshan Forest Park has a total area of more than 20,000 mu. The park
is heavily forested and rich in biological resources, including 590
kinds of plants and over 200 kinds of animals. The main landscapes
include: Pleasant Bird Garden, Mianyang Stone Ledge, A Heaven of Peace,
Gingko Garden, Peony Garden, Vine Valley, etc.
Water World
The Water World is situated on the Center Island of Yunlong Lake and the
main building, having a flavor of modernity, is shaped like a long
whale beating the water or like a white dolphin lying on the water wave.
Maling Mountain Scenic Zone
Maling Mountain is located at the southern suburb of Xinyi City, the
first traffic point city of the Asian-European Land Bridge. The scenic
zone covers an area of 28.9 sq km. Maling Mountain is a place for
sightseeing and Buddhism since ancient times and its beauty of
distinctive shape is known in the Yangtze-Huaihe region. It is one of
the renowned AAAA scenic zones.
Jiuli Mountain Ancient Battlefield
Located at the northern suburbs of Xuzhou City, Jiuli Mountain is a
famous ancient battlefield, and it is said that it was a main
battlefield where the states of Chu and Han carried out an all decisive
battle. After this battle, Xiang Yu was always defeated and then killed
himself with his sword by the Wujiang River.
General Xiang Yu’s Horse Training Platform
Horse Training Platform is one of the oldest historical sites in
existence in Xuzhou. In BC 206, after Xiang Yu as the Hero of Earth
defeated the Qin Empire, he constituted himself as Overlord-king of West
Chu, chose Pengcheng as the capital and then built an adoring platform
on the southern hill, the south of the town, to watch the soldiers
training the horses, so it is called Horse Training Platform.
Huaihai Campaign Martyr Cenotaph Park
The Huaihai Campaign Martyr Cenotaph Park covers 770,000 sqm and was
established for the victory of the Huaihai Campaign in 1948.
The Huaihai Campaign Martyr Cenotaph is located at the western section
of the main axis in the park, which is built up to the mountain and
aimed to the rising sun, with a height of 38.15 m. The front of the
cenotaph body is enchased with the big and gold-plated Chinese
characters meaning the Huaihai Campaign Martyr Cenotaph by Chairman Mao
Zedong. Besides, the cenotaph body is enveloped by an ambulatory and
pavilions at corners. The marble wall on the north and south ambulatory
is engraved with the epigraphs and names of the martyrs written by
leaders of the party and the state.
Yaowan--a town with a history of over 1,000 years on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal
Yaowan, a riverside town with a history of 1,300 years, is surrounded by
water on three sides and is situated at the confluence of the
Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and Luoma Lake. At present, about 813 rooms
of Ming and Qing Dynasties are preserved, with a space upto 15,000 sqm.
The West Avenue and Zhongning Avenue in this town left from the late
Ming dynasty and early Qing Dynasty still preserve their original styles
and features and is reputed as "Zhouzhuang Town of Northern Jiangsu
Province".
Yaowan town is home to a myriad of natural resources and talents. During
the 300-year Qing Dynasty, numerous men of letters and high aspiration
either lived in seclusion or visited in Yaowan .
