Zhengzhou University (ZZU) is the one of key construction on the list of National Project 211, the Midwest Universities Comprehensive Strength Promotion Project and the Co-construction Project jointly-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Henan Province. With a total area of about 1,000 acres, ZZU is composed of four campuses, i.e. the main campus (No.100, Kexuedadao, Zhengzhou City), the southern campus (No.75, Daxuebeilu, Zhengzhou City), the northern campus (No. 97, Wenhua Road, Zhengzhou City), and the eastern campus (No. 40, Daxuebeilu, Zhengzhou city). Medical education of ZZU dates back to the National 5th Zhongshan University established in 1928 (the predecessor of National Henan University founded in 1942). This national university moved to Zhengzhou in 1952 and established Henan Medical College (the first batch of its kind authorized to confer doctoral degrees in China) as the forerunner of the higher medical education in Henan province. The former Zhengzhou University, the first comprehensive university established by new China in 1956, was listed under National Project 211 in 1996. Zhengzhou University of Technology, a national key university under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, was founded in 1963. A large number of distinguished scholars and experts have either taught or worked at this university, including Professor Ji Wenfu, educator, historian and philosopher, Huo Bingquan, physicist professor, Professor Hou Debang, chemist, Zhong Xiangchong, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, expert in refractory, Professor Sun Guoliang, expert in civil engineering, Professor Dong Minsheng, expert in otolaryngology, Professor Shen Qiong, the founder of the esophageal cytology, Professor Su Shouzhi, expert in the human parasitology. On July 10, 2000, the new ZZU was established after the combination of three universities: the former Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou Industrial University and Henan Medical University.
