A new survey by a Germany internet company has determined Chinese people spend an average of three hours a day on their smartphones, the second longest in the world, reports the Life Times.

Brazilians spend the longest time on their phones, racking up an average of some 5 hours. Other countries on the ranking list, including the US, Canada and the UK, see people spending over 2 hours on their smartphones.

The analysis suggests more sophisticated functions on smartphones are starting to push the numbers even higher.

It's also being suggested Chinese people are being lured to their smartphones even more due to the boom of the internet culture in recent years, as well as a lack of other leisure activities.

The report is warning that an over-indulgence on smartphones could have many negative effects, including sleep patterns, work productivity and personal safety while walking or driving with their smartphones.

Analysis also warns that excessive use of smartphones by parents may generate similar habits among their children in later years.
