(ECNS) -- Almost 14 percent of employees will have to work during the National Day holiday, according to a survey by enterprise app Maimai and home-sharing site Xiaozhu.com.

14% Have to Work over National Day Holiday: Survey

It shows 13.7 percent of 357,218 respondents have to work during the holiday, most of them in sales positions.

Yet 91.7 percent have made holiday travel plans, with Sichuan, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Chongqing and Zhejiang the most popular destinations.

Over 42 percent said they will visit parents over the holiday too. But about 8 percent choose not to travel due to worries about traffic congestion or big crowds of tourists.

Among travelers, over 70 percent prefer bed and breakfast accommodation offered by families. As for what makes a good trip, 42 percent said they care most if their partners will join them, followed by humanistic interests in the destination for 26.4 percent and 14.2 percent who most appreciate nature.

The survey also showed people working in the financial industry, telecommunications and educational training are more interested in travelling abroad.

Another clear finding is that over 98 percent like to travel on their own rather than in an organized tour.

In addition to hotels, more people are interested in staying with local families. About 64 percent said they will choose home-sharing services and 44 percent want to try featured hostels.

Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai and Nanjing reported the highest orders for home-sharing over the holiday, with average rents starting from 290 to 330 yuan per night. Homes with one or two bedrooms are most popular among tourists.

How much money can you make over the holiday?

The eight-day National Day holiday is just around the corner. However, for some workers, overtime is unavoidable. Some of you might even have to work overtime for the entire holiday. If so, do you know how to tot up your payment for the overtime? Silk Road Post tells you how.

According to China's employment regulations, all employees must be paid for overtime worked. Article 44 of the Chinese Labour Law states that the remuneration for overtime work must be significantly higher than that for work done during normal working hours. When working on rest days, and days-in-lieu at not offered, employers must pay at least double time. If overtime work is required on statutory holidays, then the employer must pay at least triple time, a payment which cannot be offset by alternative days off.

According to the official announcement regarding the arrangements of the 2017 holiday calendar, as released by the office of the State Council, October 1st to 4th are statutory holidays, while October 5th to 8th are regular rest days.

Taking Guangzhou as an example, the average monthly salary in 2017 is 7754 yuan. If you work overtime for the four days from October 1st to 4th, your payment should be:7754 (monthly wage) ÷ 21.75 (monthly working days)× 300% ×4(days) = 4278.07 yuan. If you work from October 5th to 8th, then your employer should pay you at least: 7754÷21.75×200% ×4(days) = 2852.05 yuan.

In addition, normal wages cannot be lower than the monthly minimum wage. For example, the minimum wage per month in Guangzhou is 1895 yuan. Thus, if you work 8 days during the National Holiday, you should be earning at least:

1895÷21.75×300%×4(days)=1045.52 yuan,

1895÷21.75×200% ×4(days) = 697.01 yuan,

1045.52+697.01=1742.53 yuan.

This means that for some workers, 8 days holiday overtime pay is almost as much as a full month's wages. It is no wonder that so many people actually chose to work over the holidays. Wherever you plan to be during National Day, either relaxing at home or slaving away in the office, we hope that you enjoy your holidays.
