Lu Ming, deputy administrator
of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, released the
results of the 2017 "Amazing China - the Most Attractive Chinese Cities
for Foreigners" at the conference.
Cities are the crystallization of human civilization. Louis Mumford, a modern philosopher, said that the city is a special kind of structure that is compact and designed to spread the fruits of human civilization. A city is all-embracing, and constantly updated, which greatly advances human society.
Falling in love with a country often begins with falling in love with a city. Millions of foreign talents who work in China today have seen the changes in Chinese cities, and have worked hard to help make them.
In recent years, the implementation of the work permit and talent visa systems for foreigners in China has led to continuous improvement of services for foreigners, including government affairs, policies, work, and living environment, allowing more foreign talents to feel comfortable in China.
The only domestic ranking of Chinese cities selected by foreigners, "Amazing China - the Most Attractive Chinese Cities for Foreigners" has been compiled eight times since 2010.
The current selection activity ran from November 2017 to February 2018. It collected personal responses of 4,066 foreign experts working in China and 25,494 Internet votes.
The team of foreign expert judges consisted of 68 high-end foreign experts, including Nobel laureates, winners of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, and experts selected for the "Thousand Talents Plan" project. They not only signed up for voting, but also wrote down evaluations and recommendations of Chinese cities.
The four Nobel laureates participating in the selection was the highest number in history.
The selection activity was jointly organized by the China Society for Research on International Professional Personnel Exchange and Development and International Talent magazine. China Daily was the chief cooperative media responsible for the construction of the official website and full coverage of the event.
The named cities were Shanghai, Beijing, Hefei, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Chengdu, Nanjing and Guangzhou.
