All inbound passengers from overseas arriving in Shanghai will be required to undergo 14-day quarantine for medical observation at designated spots from Saturday, the city's coronavirus disease prevention and control authorities announced on Friday night.

Those already under home quarantine can continue as normal until their 14-day quarantine period ends, authorities said.

Only seniors, juveniles, pregnant women, people with physical disabilities, those who need to take care of the elderly or children, or those who have underlying diseases are allowed to apply for quarantine at home, authorities said.

Strict review will be implemented before they are allowed to undergo quarantine at home, authorities said.

All inbound passengers will also be required to undergo nucleic acid tests before being sent to quarantine, or into a medical facility if the result is positive.

Inbound diplomats and personnel involved in important economic and trade, scientific research and technology cooperation from overseas will follow other regulations, authorities said.

Meanwhile, international arrivals heading to other parts of China via Shanghai — except for those transferring to neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces — must also undergo 14-day quarantine in Shanghai before being allowed to travel on to their final destination, authorities have announced.

Arriving passengers whose final destinations are Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui will be picked up by authorities from the three provinces at the city’s airports and directly taken to their destinations, authorities said.

SHANGHAI — Shanghai Municipality has further expanded quarantine measures for inbound passengers and strengthened joint epidemic control measures with provinces across the Yangtze River Delta.

All inbound passengers to destinations other than the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui across the Yangtze River Delta should undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arriving in Shanghai, according to the Information Office of the Shanghai municipal government.

For those inbound passengers who enter Shanghai and are destined for the above provinces, the three provincial governments will send working groups to directly transfer them from the Shanghai airport to their destinations for quarantine based on the joint epidemic control mechanism within the area.

The new regulation, taking effect on March 27, is the latest move to tackle the rising trend of imported novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the area.

Before March 27, inbound passengers destined for other provinces and cities could travel to their final destinations if their nucleic acid test results were negative and their body temperatures were normal upon arriving in Shanghai.

Shanghai reported 17 new confirmed COVID-19 cases from other countries on March 26, bringing the total number of imported cases in the city to 129.

Chongqing, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has tightened quarantine measures for international arrivals to further guard against imported cases of COVID-19.

All people arriving from overseas have to be put under concentrated medical observation for 14 days upon arrival, the local authority on epidemic prevention and control said Thursday.

Previously, people from countries with severe epidemic situations were quarantined at designated places for 14 days while the rest were subject to a 14-day home quarantine.

Chongqing had reported two confirmed imported cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, both of whom are currently hospitalized.
