A foreigner was kicked out of China after he threw a cell phone at a health worker who told him to put on a mask as the world continues to battle COVID-19.

The incident took place outside a residential community in the city of Xi’an, the capital of China’s Shaanxi province, on Sunday.

The man was trying to enter his rental residence, but he refused to obey rules relating to the control and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to China Daily.

In the video, which is now circulating on Chinese social media, the man can be seen slurring his words and cursing at a health worker wearing a hazmat suit. He can be heard shouting “mother*****s” before grabbing a cell phone lying on the sidewalk and threw it forcefully towards the man.

The man has not been identified, but he is originally from Morocco, according to the Daily Mail.

China has ordered a foreign national to leave the country after he launched an assault on hazmat-clad health officers who asked him to wear a face mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

One eyewitness told reporters that alcohol may have been involved as the man smelled of liquor when the incident happened, Shanghaiist reported.

I was at the convenience shop nearby when I heard someone smashing things and shouting,' the witness told Pear Video. 'He smelled of alcohol.

Authorities were immediately called and the man was taken to the police station. Many social media users reportedly demanded the man to be deported.

After assessing the situation, the police agreed and announced the man would have to leave China for “disrupting public order” during this time period.

The foreign resident is facing deportation after being arrested by local police for disrupting public services, according to an official statement. The man allegedly became infuriated after the community workers ordered him to wear a face mask before entering the residential complex he lived in.

'We received a report that a foreigner in our jurisdiction did not wear a mask while entering the residential complex he lived in and disobeyed the property management staff,'the local Yanta Police wrote in a statement yesterday.

'His behaviour disrupted the public order and we ordered him to leave the country within a time limit.'

Communities around China have enforced strict measures on their residents amid fears of a second wave of infections.

Citizens are required to wear face masks regularly and show dedicated barcodes on their phone to prove they don't carry the coronavirus before entering public places.

Similar situations have taken place where other foreigners have been kicked out of China after breaking the rules during the pandemic.

An Australian woman was fired and deported for breaking quarantine rules in Beijing by going out on a jog earlier this month.

China is seeing a surge of new coronavirus cases from air passengers travelling from abroad. Over the weekend, China banned entry to all foreigners, including non-nationals with valid visas and residence permits. International flights to China were also restricted in a move to curb the rising number of imported cases.
