On May 5, a short video of two passengers, a foreign male and a Chinese lady, quarelling on a train went viral online --igniting a heated discussion about foreigner's privileges in China -- and I might say, all for the wrong reasons.
The video above is short and we would never know what happened before this video was taken, but it shows a train conductor mediating a brawl between a foreign national and a Chinese lady who kept shouting "He is a foreigner so he has special privileges?"
The lady was upset that the man did not wear his face mask properly, and kept asking him to wear his mask.
The foreign man, also seemingly upset, can be heard asking the train conductor to tell the lady to shut up. From the video, it is reported that the man did not wear his mask properly, and it can be seen that he wore it under his nose.
After the
short video went viral online, hitting at no. 51 hottest topic on Weibo
with more than 20 Million views, Shanghai Railway Bureau issued a
statement saying that the man was lectured by the train staff and he
agreed to cooperate with the rules on pandemic prevention and control.
But the question still remains, and that is, what has one human not wearing his mask properly got to do with "foreigner's privileges" in China?
