Lily Zhang
Why can concentrating on the Wisdom Door make me warm?
Q: Why do I feel warm when sitting still and doing the concentration practice? It’s especially effective during the breathing practice. However, I don’t feel warm when doing the walking practice.
A: This can be explained from two points:
1、 It’s normal that your body feels warm when concentrating on the Wisdom Door. This is because it can initiate the inner power that we seldom use in daily life.
Concentration can help us absorb the universal energy, so you may feel quite warm physically.
Breathing through the Wisdom Door is the easiest way for us to concentrate. When our minds can return to the Wisdom Door, it will start our unlimited energy even if we only focus for fifty percent.
Lamas have similar practice called Kundalini (inner fire). In a snowy winter, they are asked to heat up the wet towel on their back by using their inner heat. If they fail to do so, they will be frozen to death. With such a strict training, lamas are forced to concentrate on the One, which enables them to start their inner fire.
In China , the breathing practice is an easy and gentle way to start our life energy. Many ancient books recorded that Zen masters could walk in the snow with bare feet. This is the same energy as Lama’s inner fire.
2、 On the contrary, when we are doing the walking practice combined with breathing, our body doesn’t feel warm. According to my experience, breathing practice combined with walking, running and reciting makes my temperature cool down.
Usually exercise can make us feel warm and sweat. If we combine exercise with the Three Treasures, it can cool down our body temperature. This makes us continue the practice for longer time. Many Tao members have the same experience. No matter in riding bicycles, jumping rope, or running, they will get better endurance if they use the Three Treasures when exercising.
Another reason why you don’t feel warm during the walking practice is that the heat is scattered by moving. Breathing through the Wisdom Door while walking can heat up our body, but the heat will be scattered by moving. It’s just as being covered by the quilt can make us warmer, but if we keep moving, the heat won’t maintain and it will disappear.
If we do the practice while running, we will be sure to sweat and gasp because of the physical movement. Breathing through the Wisdom Door when running can cool down our temperature and prevent us from tiredness so that we can continue the practice for a longer time.
My experience may not be the formula. Everyone has his own experience when doing the breathing practice. In my practicing classes, many beginners feel warm after finishing a series of practice; however, the senior Tao members may not have the same feeling every time.
Practicing the Three Treasures is a religious experience called “mystic experience” by psychologists. It does not belong to the mundane rules, so there won’t be any formula to follow. Even when using the same practicing method, everyone has different experiences. According to different affinities, Tao members have different inspirations. We just collect different experiences here for different people to consult.
Anyway, the goal for us to concentrate on the Wisdom Door or do the breathing practice is not to start Kundalini (inner fire) or train a physical body that doesn’t fear the bitter cold and can walk in the snow with bare feet. Our goal is to wipe out our deep-rooted greed, hatred, and stupidity and let go any kind of attachment. As for feeling warm or numb, or not afraid of cold, it is just the bonus of doing the practice. We don’t need to care about that at all. Too much care about any special experience will lead us to greater attachment and greed and lead us astray from the real aim of the practice.
We can’t make the above explanation the fixed rule. Any Tao member can experience and do the experiment by himself. The only certain point is: doing the Three Treasures practice definitely brings positive influence to our body and mind.
