【星火英语版】2016 四级真题答案 第一套

Part Ⅰ Writing

Finding A Job First

College students’options upon graduation vary from person to person. Some students choose to hunt for a job while others prefer to start their own businesses. As for me, I would rather find a job first.

The reasons for my decision are as follows. For one thing, it is much easier for me to find a job compared with starting a business which demands fund, experience, and the market. As a green hand who has just graduated from college, it’s totally beyond my ability to handle such a complex situation. For another, working for others could develop my personalities such as perseverance and stress tolerance, which can help me become more prepared and qualified if I would like to start my own business.

To conclude, chances always favor those who are prepared. And I don’t think a person could really “build up from nothing”.  As a result, I will find a job first after graduation.

Part Ⅳ Translation

The color of red in Chinese culture usually symbolizes good luck, longevity, and happiness. Red can be found everywhere during Chinese Spring Festival and other joyous occasions. Cashes are often put in red envelopes and sent to family members or close friends as gifts. The popularity of red in China can also be attributed to the fact that people associate it with the Chinese Revolution and the Communist Party. However, red does not signify good luck and joy all the time in that the name of the dead used to be written in red. Thus it is regarded as an offense to write the names of Chinese people in red ink.

Part Ⅰ Writing

Going to a Graduate School Will Be Better for Me

If given two options after graduation, that is, to take a job in a company and to go to a graduate school, I’d prefer the latter.

First and foremost, it is widely acknowledged that higher level of education means better payments and more opportunities in the future in China. Therefore, I think another two or three years’ investment in graduate education must be worthwhile in the long run. Secondly, I love my major and have a strong desire to further my study so as to deeply explore some academic issues in this field. Finally, the job market for undergraduate students is too competitive for average students like me to find a satisfying job. Thus, it would be a better choice if I could obtain a master’s degree.

Considering the three factors listed above, I would choose to go to a graduate school after graduation to earn a better future.

Part Ⅳ Translation

In Chinese culture, yellow is a color occupying a fairly prominent position, which is endowed with unique symbolic significance. During feudal times, yellow stands for the ruler’s power and authority. At that time, yellow was exclusively designed for the emperor, with the royal palace painted yellow and the imperial robe always being yellow, while ordinary people were never permitted to wear yellow clothes. In China, yellow is also the symbol of harvest. When crops are ripening in the fall, people celebrate the harvest in high spirits, with the fields taking on a vast expanse of golden appearance.

Part Ⅰ Writing

Working in a state-owned business or in a joint venture

Upon graduation, all college students will confront the problem of the career choice, which is truly a tough one. Some hold that there is no better way to get a decent job than working in a stated-owned business, which will guarantee their quality of life after retirement, [while others insist that working in a joint venture outweighs any other jobs as it may provide higher income. As for me, I prefer the latter.

For one thing, a joint venture usually offers a more cooperative and competitive working atmosphere which is suitable for the beginners to develop their abilities. For another, joint ventures usually provide high salaries,  which exerts a tremendous fascination on a great number of people, especially to the beginners who need to cover the expenses of transportation, the house-renting, and social activities. Besides the above two, I adore the diverse business culture in the joint ventures, immersed in which I can broaden my vision and expand my knowledge.

Based on the above reasons, working in a joint venture will be my first and sole choice.

Part Ⅳ Translation

With China’s reform and opening up, nowadays quite a number of youngsters would like to celebrate their weddings in western style. The bride wears a white wedding dress at the ceremony, as white is regarded as a symbol of purity. However, in traditional Chinese culture, white is a color that is often used in funerals. That's why it's necessary to keep in mind that white flowers must not be gifts for patients, especially not for the elders or critically ill patients. Similarly, the cash gift shouldn’t be packed in a white envelope, but in a red one instead.
