How to Set Up WeChat Wallet?
Our previous articles have guided users how to find restaurants on "Dianping"; buy movie tickets on "Dianping" and make appointment with cleaner on "Ayi Bang"... However, all of these actions wont be able to be completed if you don't have your WeChat Wallet set up. Ringy has been frequently asked by our users for guideline of Setting up WeChat Wallet and we decided it was high time to provide this guideline.Today let's take a look...
Setting up your WeChat Wallet is quite simple. You just need you name (as it is written on your passport and bank application), mobile number, and bank card number.
Go to your profile and you will see 'Wallet'. Click on [Wallet] to see your balance and start linking cards:
Click the top right corner of [Cards] and then Select [Add a Card] to get started.
Afterwards, the general steps will just be the same with every other times that you want to add a card: entering card number, selecting which bank, and getting verification through your mobile phone. Make sure you enter the phone number that the bank has on record.
Two common issues that you might encounter:
1. Why Can’t I Change the ID Type?
Not all banks support using a passport as a form of ID – if your bank doesn’t, then either open a new bank account with banks that do or use your International credit card to register. Below is a list of the banks currently accepted:
Industrial & Commercial Bank of China
Agricultural Bank of China
China Construction Bank
China Merchants Bank
China Everbright Bank
Bank of Communications
Huaxia Bank
China Everbright Bank
China Industrial Bank
WeChat is also accepting International credit cards as payment for wechat wallet. Below is a list of International credit cards currently accepted:
American Express Credit Card
JCB Credit Card
Mastercard Credit Card
VISA Credit Card
2. Why Won’t WeChat Accept My Information?
You’ve double-checked your name, passport number and registered phone number, but it’s still not going through. It's very likely that you are not entering the exactly same information with what your bank have entered. Try all possible versions of your name, including all uppercase, lowercase and with or without spaces. If it’s still doesn't work, you may need to visit your bank and ask them to print out a form with your information exactly as they’ve entered it. Be sure to take your passport when you go to request this information.
So, what can I do with WeChat Wallet once I have a card connected to it?
You can deposit and withdraw money.
You can see how much you left in your Balance on the homepage.
Warning: The latest withdrawal policy just claimed that now each WeChat account has up to total 1000yuan limit on free withdrawal. Once it's over 1000yuan prescribed amount, WeChat will start charging you 0.1% service fee to each withdrawal.
Some banks do not support withdrawals. If that’s the case, then you can give money to your friends through [Transfer].
You can either click the [Transfer] on your Wallet‘s first page to send money to any “Friend” in Contacts list, or go to the chat page with your friend and Click [+] then you will see [Transfer].
You can also add money to your phone ( at a few discount!).
You can also pay your utilities bills, such as gas, water and electric through WeChat Wallet.
Currently this service page only has Chinese version. Feel free to check with Ringy whenever you are going to do it. You will need to have your paper bill mailed to your first so we can see your account number and help you finish the whole process.
you can go out without your wallet as long as you have WeChat installed in your phone!
Now there are more and more services accepting WeChat payment, either online services or onsite shops.Keep your eyes open for a point-of-sale machine which will scan your phone when you click “Quick Pay”.
Added bonus: If you have Chinese friends, you might already have money in your Balance of the WeChat Wallet from the manic Chinese New Year tradition of sending Hongbao (Lucky Money). If not, maybe you need to look for better friends. XD
Feel free to send Ringy messages if you have any questions regarding to the setting process of your WeChat Wallet! Also you are welcomed to leave your comments on the cases that you have managed to use WeChat Wallet for so people can get to know more about the usage of WeChat Wallet!
