After a series of student orientation activities, the Nanyan campus is gradually returning to its usual order. Here are some of the highlights from September 9 to September 15 that you need to know:

PKUSZ graduate student Zheng Ziyi on CCTV as guest speaker


Sept. 6

On September 6, Zheng Ziyi, a second-year student in Prof. Ni Honggang’s research group at PKUSZ, went on CCTV a guest speaker in the science and education program “Science in the Zoo”. She introduced the unique habits of giant anteaters and explained scientific knowledge in a humorous fashion.

PKUSZ holds three official activities to welcome new students




Sept. 6

On September 6, PKUSZ hosted three student orientation activities. In the morning, Gong Qihuang, PKU President, gave the first lesson for new graduate students. After that, PKUSZ, along with PKU Academy of Opera, delivered a performance featuring historical events important in CPC’s development. In the afternoon, PKUSZ convened a symposium with new student representatives. PKUSZ Chancellor Zhang Jin was present.

Chancellor Zhang presides over PKUSZ enrollment seminar


Sept. 11

On September 11, Zhang Jin, PKU Vice President and PKUSZ Chancellor, chaired the postgraduate enrollment seminar of PKUSZ in Beijing. At the meeting, he gave a profile of PKUSZ and elaborated on the basic information of postgraduate enrollment.

Former Dean of Cambridge Judge Business School joins PHBS


Sept. 

This year, PHBS welcomed Professor Christoph H. Loch, who once served as Dean of Cambridge Judge Business School for ten years, into its international faculty family. Along with him, three other outstanding scholars also joined PHBS. They are: Kevin Nanakdewa, Lyu Chen and Wang Xiaoyu.

The UK campus of PHBS holds a welcome reception for new students


Sept. 14

On September 14, the UK campus of PHBS held a welcome ceremony for the incoming class of 2023. PHBS Founding Dean Hai Wen attended the ceremony. The inaugural cohort of 39 Master of Finance (International Financial Management) students, as well as six students from other disciplines, will begin their year of study in Oxfordshire.

PKUSZ to hold preliminary rounds of a speech contest


Sept. 18

On September 18 and 22, PKUSZ will hold preliminary rounds of a campus-wide speech contest. Champion of this competition will have the opportunity to represent PKUSZ to participate in the grand final held in PKU Beijing on October 14.

PKUSZ to hold 2023 new student welcoming show


Sept. 27

On September 27, PKUSZ will hold an evening show to welcome new students. The show will feature colorful performances, including a freshman fashion show, a medley of band songs and dance troupe performances, highlighting the youthfulness and vitality of PKUSZ students.

Chinese Teachers’ Day


Sept. 10

Teachers’ Day is scheduled for September 10 in China, which implies that students are expected to respect their teachers from the very beginning of new semesters. The significance of the Teachers’ Day is to recognize the contribution made by teachers to the cause of education.

Li Zhimin publishes

collaborative paper on Economic Development and Cultural Change


Assistant Professor Li Zhimin from PHBS recently published his collaborative paper entitled Political Connections, Competition, and Innovation: Quasi-Experimental Evidence from Chinese Firms on the top-tier journal Economic Development and Cultural Change.

PKUSZ holds kick-off meeting for a key research project

On September 11, under the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the kick-off meeting of a key project of the National Key Research and Development Program (NKRDP), was held at PKUSZ. Leaders of PKUSZ Research Division were present.
