Yichang | 4 Days Three Gorges Dam Project and Tribe Tour

"Three Gorges Dam Project" is the short term for the water control project on Yangtze River. It is located in the middle section of Xiling Gorge near Sandouping Town in Yichang City, Hubei Province. Being the world's largest hydropower project, this dam has created many "Firsts" such as the most efficient dam in flood control, the most difficult construction work and the largest migration project in the world.
The dam project is composed of the dam, the hydropower stations and the navigation facility. It measures 607 feet tall and the top is 3,319 yards wide. It has taken 17 years to finish the construction of the whole project, which started in 1992 and includes three stages.
The first stage took five years from 1992 to 1997. During this period, the cofferdam construction and the excavation of a diversion channel in the first stage were finished. Meanwhile, a temporary ship lock on the left bank of the river and some preparation work was also completed. The second stage lasted six years from 1998 to 2003, when the cofferdam construction was in its second stage and was undertaken at the same time as the construction of the permanent ship lock and the navigation buildings. The power station facilities construction and the installation of machinery on the left bank were also completed. The third stage of the project began in 2003 and has been completed in 2009. During this period, the installation of all machinery, the construction of the power station and the dam on the right bank are finished. Now, a 3,861 square miles canyon-reservoir dam is presented to the world.
The dam project was born with a huge controversy covering economic, technical, environment, migration, tourism and the protection fields. Great concerns have been paid regarding the benefits and problems that this century's big project would bring to the people and the environment. The adoption of the project construction resolution ended the heated debates among scientists.

About the Local Food: Although Yichang belongs to Hubei Province, the traditional Yichang cuisine is quite similar to that of Sichuan and is characterized by a spicy and pungent flavor. Prickly ash, hot pepper and chili powder play an important role in the dining of native people.

The train from Beijing to Yichang is Z3 or Z95 leaving at 17:48 and arrive at 07:05 on the next day
The train back to beijing is Z50/Z4/Z96 leaving at 20:51 and will arrive at beijing 10:20am on the next day.
We will try to arrange all of the participants in the same train firstly, but if there is no tickets available, we have to take different train, please be cooperative.
All the train tickets are sold randomly, so it is a little difficult to get the sequential tickets during holiday, hope you can understand and book the trip in advance.

Day1 Beijing-Yichang Leave from Beijing to Enshi around 17:48, Overnight on the train
Transfer: By train, berth train tickets.
Meals: None, prepare some snacks before you get on the train.
Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

Leaving from Beijing to Yichang, Find our trip leader at the Flag Tower of BeijingXi Train Station (Find CET Green Flag) to get your train ticket. and then get together to check inside and take the train. It will take 15 hours on the train. So remember to bring some food with you.

Day2 Cruise along Yangtze Rive and Pass Gezhouba Dim to Visit Three Gorges, Overnight in Yichang City

Welcome to Yichang! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our tour guide in the train station who is holding a sign on which CETtrip. A comfortable vehicle (non-smoking) with experienced driver will transfer you directly to take the loose pulley and the cruise along the Yangtze River. Firstly you will visit Gezhouba Dim.
As the experimental dam of the Three Gorges Dam Project (hereunder abbreviated as TGP), Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project is located in Yichang City of Hubei Province, 38 kilometers (23 miles) away from the TGP. When the Yangtze River goes through the Nanjin Pass, the river suddenly becomes a lot broader, widening from 300 meters (0.2 miles) to 2,200 meters (1.4 miles). At a cost of 4.9 billion CNY, this project was started in 1970 and finished in 1988. 2,606 meters (1.6 miles) long and 53 meters (173 feet) high, the dam divided the Yangtze River into three parts, which are respectively called Da Jiang, Er Jiang and San Jiang in a south to north order. It consists of two hydro electric power stations, three navigation locks, and several sluice-gates some of which are used for accumulating water in dry seasons. At the first sight of this giant project, people will surely be astonished at its size and the majestic waterfall pouring from water gates.

After we finish visiting Three Gorges Dam, we will take bus to go back to Yichang City and then enjoy your yichang night and explore yichang food by yourself.

Transfer: By local travelling bus+Ferry
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch, Please prepare your lunch by yourself, you will be in Pingshan Canyon during the lunch time.
Accommodation: Overnight in the train
After breakfast and then check out the hotel and we will go to visit Three Gorge Tribe, firstly our bus will send us to the wharf and then take the ferry to arrive at the senic spot, it will take about one hour to arrvie at Three Gorge Tribe.
Three Gorges Tribe in Yichang, Hubei Province, is a good place to enjoy the wonderful natural landscapes and experience the culture and customs of the Tujia ethnic minority. It stands between Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project and Three Gorges Dam Project along the Yangtze River. The natural scenery here is just like a painting, with the green mountains reflecting on the crystal-clear water, the quaint boats floating quietly, and the waterwheels rotating slowly under the blue sky. Also, you can appreciate amazing folk shows and acrobatics in the style of the ancients and the wonderful song and dance performances by Tujia girls and boys, which will bring you a lot of surprises. Here below are the most attractive scenic spots and the best performances:
Visitors can admire the folk shows and acrobatics in the village. If you are interested in instruments, you may listen to the Tujia music, which is played with the stringed instruments, making people feel fresh; if you are expecting to enjoy the Chinese folk acrobatics, you can watch the magicians walking on the swords and the road of flames without being injured. Besides, there are other traditional folk shows such as the shadow play and monkey show for visitors to enjoy.
After we finish visiting this spot, then we will go back to the wharf and take the ferry to go back to Yichang City and then take the train back to Beijing

Things to bring
Passport/ID card.
Comfortable, sturdy shoes, and a spare pair of shoes to change into at the end of the day.
Bring a few changes of clothes, including something warm for night time.
It's highly recommended you bring a waterproof outer layer and rain jacket.
Bring a book or pack of cards in case you get bored during the driving between the villages. (We don't think you'll get bored!)
Bring you camera and chargers for all your electronics.
Bring a backpack to hold water and food for the hiking. Bring a duffle bag or suitcase for the rest of your things – we can leave that at the hotel or on the bus.
Meals, water and snacks arenot all provided; bring extra snacks if you like!
Bring personal toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste etc) and small towel.
Bring any personal medicine you might need. Your guide will have a basic first aid kit.
