Zhangjiajie is located in central China, northwest Hunan Province, over 1,000 kilometers from both Shanghai and Beijing. Zhangjiajie is famous for its precarious peaks, limpid streams, dense forests, and large karst caves. It was thrust into foreigner travelers' eyes after the movie Avatar. The Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar were inspired by Heavenly Pillar in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. In 1982, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park became China's first national forest park.

“Enjoy beautiful waterscape in Jiuzhaigou, while enjoy the miraculous mountains in Zhangjiajie”. Zhangjiajie is the “World Geological Park” located in the northwestern part of Hunan Province. It is known as the “Number-One Miraculous Mountain in the World” and “The Original Manuscript of Chinese Landscape Painting”. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is large and needs at least two days to explore. It draws a large number of visitors with its awesome towering geology and rich wildlife. Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge, with a total length of 430 meters and a height of 300 meters.

Fenghuang Ancient Town, aka Phoenix Ancient Town and Feng Huang Gu Cheng in Chinese, is situated on the western boundary of Hunan Province in an area of outstanding natural beauty where mountains, water and blue skies prevail. 'Fenghuang' is Chinese for 'Phoenix', the mythical bird of good omen and longevity that is consumed by fire to be re-born again from the flames. Fenghuang Ancient Town is so called as legend has it that two of these fabulous birds flew over it and found the Fenghuang Town so beautiful that they hovered there, reluctant to leave.

Fenghuang Ancient Town is a wonderful example of what villages were like prior to the onset of modernization. Here dozens of alleys paved with flagstones run between the houses, each showing wear caused by the feet of generations of local people who have used them when going about their daily business. For the visitor, these alleys are the way to see the typical high gabled wooden houses built on stilts along the banks of the Tuo Jiang River at close quarters.

What to wear: warm and windproof clothes
What to expect: The panoramas of snow-covered mountains can make winters special. The most likely time to see snow scenery in the mountains is from mid January to late February. There are a few heavy snow falls at that time every year.
Good to know: It is cold in the mountains, with slippery roads, so access may be restricted. There are also far fewer tourists in winter so the main sites are less crowded. Prices of hotels are lower than in peak season.

About the Local Food: Food in Zhangjiajie is spicy and strong-flavored Hunan cuisin. Food in Wulingyuan is better than in the park, but still limited. There are no vegetarian and Western restaurants in the town.

Hunan cuisine is even hotter and spicier than the spicy red hot flavors of Sichuan cuisine,. Common cooking techniques include stewing, frying, pot-roasting, braising and smoking.
Tujia dishes are characterized by sourness and spiciness. Their favorites are pickled dishes and smoked dishes. Pickled dishes include pickled pepper, cabbage, ginger, meat, and fish. Smoked dishes include smoked pork, salted lamb, and salted beef.

CET will buy hard sleeping bed train tickets for you, once we get your tickets, we will inform you in our group or text you.
The train from Beijing to Zhangjiajie is K967 leaving at 08:37 and arrive at 11:20 on the next day
The train back to beijing is Z36 leaving at 23:40 and will arrive at beijing 13:55 on the next day.
We will try to arrange all of the participants in the same train firstly, but if there is no tickets available, we have to take different train.
All the train tickets are sold randomly, so it is a little difficult to get the sequential tickets during holiday, hope you can understand and book the trip in advance.

Full Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1: Beijing-Zhangjiajie from Beijing TrainStation Overnight at the train.

Transfer: By train, berth train tickets.

Meals: None, prepare some snacks before you get on the train.

Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

Please Note: Dont forget to take your passport and student book if you are student. Cold-proof clothing is needed if you dont want to frostbite.

Leaving from Beijing to Zhangjiajie, Find our trip leader at the Flag Tower of Beijing Train Station (Find CET Green Flag) to get your train ticket. and then get together to check inside and take the train. It will take 24 hours on the train. So remember to bring some food with you.

Transport ideas: Actually most of CETtrips are planed for foreign students, so in order to make our trips more affordable, most transports of our trips are by train. But in fact, there are many flights available for this trip, and Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport is just 6 km from downtown area. It is convenient as well for this trip. Day 2: Zhangjiajie City, arrive around 17:00pm - Overnight in Wulingyuan.

Transfer: By local travelling bus. 0.5 hours from Zhangjiajie City to Wulingyuan

Welcome to Zhangjiajie! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our tour guide in the train station who is holding a sign on which CETtrip. A comfortable vehicle (non-smoking) with experienced driver willtransfer you directly to Wulingyuan Senic Spots. And then 1 hours later, we can arrive and check in the hotels.

Day 3: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and Glass Bridge, Overnight in Wulingyuan.

Transfer: By local travelling bus.

Meals: Breakfast、Dinner.

Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Wulingyuan

In this morning, After breakfast, we will be ready for today's exciting adventure. You'll drive about 20 km to visit Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. You will start from the Tourist Center to Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge to walk on the highest and longest glass bridge in the world. After that, appreciate the charming sightseeing of running waters, flying waterfalls, lush vegetation, etc. at the Rainbow Square, Yilian Youmeng, Momo Cave, the Holy Spring Lake and other beautiful attractions in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. Lunch time will be in this senic spot, so prepare your lunch in advance or buy it inside.

After the tour, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Zhangjiajie downtown area.

Day4: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park - Yuanjiajie - Tianzi Mount, Live in Wulingyuan

Transfer: By local travelling bus.

Meals: Breakfast、Dinner.

After breakfast, start your full-day Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Adventure. Located 32 kilometers from Zhangjiajie city, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first state-level forest park in China. It is known for its exquisite forests, odd-shaped peaks and rocks, the beautiful canyons, the limestone caves, and the breath-taking panoramic views. The words, such as majestic, eccentric, tranquil, delicate and wild, are not enough to describe it's beauty.

Firstly, go to take the 326-meter-high Bailong Elevator (the tallest and the fastest in the world) up to Yuanjiajie, which is situated in the north of Zhangjiajie National Park. This scenic area is world famous as the mountains here inspired the floating mountains in the Hollywood movie Avatar. The peaks in Yuanjiajie are nearly at the same height, which makes it a mountain platform great for enjoying sweeping vistas.

Next, take a sightseeing bus to TianziMountain, where you can have a stunning view of the peaks rising one afteranother. Atop of the mountain offers a full extent of the whole scenic area,which is magnificent and spectacular. There are four wonders in TianziMountain: the Sea of Clouds, the Radiance of the Moonlight, Rays of Sunshineand the Snow in winter.

After the exciting tour, your guide and driver will escort you to your hotel.

Day 5: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: Golden Whip Brook-Fenghuang Ancient Town. Live in Fenghuang Town.

Transfer: Local travelling bus, from zhangjiajie City to Fenghuang Ancient town, 3.5 hours

Meals: After we arrive Fenghuan Ancient town, there are many bars and clubs in the ancient town, and the night life is very rich. So you can go with your friends and explore your dinner and enjoy the night.

Accommodation: Hostel in Fenghuang Ancient town

After Breakfast, you’ll explore the famous Golden Whip Brook which covers a distance of 7.5 km, winding across mountains and valleys. It is famous for its pristine water, its verdant mountains, its steep cliffs and its serene valley. As a veritable "paradise" for plants, its pathways are adorned by an abundance of flowers, trees, and grasses.

After the tour, you'll be transferred to Fenghuang Ancient town and have lunch, And then 2 hours later, we can arrive at Fenghuang Ancient town. Appreciate the fabulous night view of this ancient town.

Upon arrival visitor will be impressed by its air of mystery, elegance and primitive simplicity. This is a world that is dominated by the colour green. The mountain slopes are covered with green foliage, the fields are green and even the Tuo Jiang River reflects the greenery. The bridges over the water and unique houses built on stilts display a harmony that is so often portrayed in traditional Chinese paintings. This is particularly true when mist pervades the scene in the early morning or after rain. It soon becomes apparent that the claim to being one of the two most beautiful towns in the whole of China is more than justified; the other town is Chang Ting in Fujian Province.

Day 6: Fenghuang Ancient Town-Morong Miao Village- Changsha City, Overnight in train

Transfer: By local travelling bus. Fenghuang Ancient town to Morong Miao Village 1.5 hours and Morong Miao to Zhangjiajie City, 5 hours

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. Dinner is leave for you to explore Changsha food.

Accommodation: Over night in the train.

Today, you’ll have a nice tour in Fenghuang Ancient Town. It is located on the western edge of Hunan Province and next to Guizhou. Praised as the most beautiful tiny city in China, it sets an example of what villages were like before the start of modernization. In the town dozens of lanes are paved with stones that run between the wooden houses built on stilts. Generations of local people have stepped on the lanes and worn them down bit by bit. Highlights of your today's tour will be Phoenix River relaxing boat experience, The Former Residence of Shen Congwen, and the East Gate Tower, etc.

After Fenghuang Ancient Town, we will go to Morong Miao Village. The Miao ethnic minority is predominantly settled here and a visit to a Miao village is a must when going to Fenghuang. The Miao women have a natural beauty that renders the use of cosmetics quite unnecessary. They love to dress in traditional blue garments set off with a white scarf. They love also their silver jewellery especially during festivals. Visitors will find a large array of hand made items of silver ornaments for sale in the local shops. Home made tie-dyes, printed and batik cloths are other local specialities that make wonderful souvenirs. The Miao are friendly and hospitable and like nothing more than to interact with visitors with a variety of traditional entertainments and activities. Food here also is different from that found elsewhere in China. Pickled red peppers are a particular local delicacy and their appetizing smell wafts from the many small family run restaurants.

In the afternoon, drive back to Changsha city and take the train back to Beijing (leave Changsha around 23:00pm, and arrive Beijing around 21:50pm)
