探究一 feel like的用法
With no light outside, it felt like midnight. 外面没有光亮，感觉就像半夜一样。(P35)
【点睛】
feel like+名词，意为"觉得好像……”。
【拓展】
feel like (doing) sth. 意为“想要（做）某事”，相当于want to do，并且feel like后面可以接名词、代词或动名词，但不能接动词不定式。如：I don’t feel like walking very much today. 我今天不太想散步。

探究二 beat的用法
Ben was helping his mom make dinner when the rain began to beat heavily against the windows. 当雨开始猛烈敲击窗户时，本正在帮妈妈做晚饭。(P35)
【点睛】
beat意为“击败，战胜”，一般跟对手作宾语，还可以意为“(心脏)跳动”或“打击”。
【拓展】
win意为“赢；获得”，一般后跟比赛、奖品或奖项作宾语，也可作不及物动词，表示“赢”的结果。如：
They won the battle but lost many men. 他们取得了这次战斗的胜利，但牺牲了很多人。

A girl named Maria was killed (被杀死) at around 6: 20 p. m. on a rainy day. Somebody found her and called the police. At 7: 30 p. m. the police got four suspects (犯罪嫌疑人). The police asked them the same question, “What were you doing at around 6: 20 p. m. ?”
Lucy, she is a student and she is Maria’s good friend. When she heard the bad news, she was completely shocked. “What were you doing at around 6: 20 p. m. Lucy?” The policeman asked, “I was doing my homework in the classroom from six to seven and several other classmates were in the classroom, too.”
Next, the policeman went up to Maria’s neighbor, Miss White, the owner of a barbershop. When she heard what the police said, she couldn’t believe it. She thought for a moment after she heard the policeman’s question and said, “A young man was in my shop and I was cutting his hair. He left at 7: 50 p. m. Then I closed my shop and went back home.”
The policeman said nothing and went to the next suspect, a cook. He is called Bob. He is so bad that almost everyone hates him. He’s mad at Maria. He said he was playing computer games with his friend in the net bar. They didn’t stop playing until midnight.
The last suspect is John. He’s a worker in a factory. He’s Maria’s ex-boyfriend (前男友). He said he didn’t kill her. He fell in love with her three years ago and he still loved her though they said goodbye. It was a few kilometers away from the street where she died and he was sleeping at that time.
