Asymmetric-electrolyte Zn-air battery has been developed by coupling acidic cathode for ORR with alkaline anode for Zn oxidation, which delivers an open circuit voltage of 2.11 V, a power density of 270 mW/cm2, and an energy density of 1279 Wh/kg, thanks to the full utilization of electrochemical neutralization energy (see the article by Pingwei Cai, Xinxin Peng, Junheng Huang, Jingchun Jia, Xiang Hu & Zhenhai Wen on pages 385–392).
