Dongguan's story shown through embroidery threads 寮步潮绣,绣出东莞故事
近日,潮绣(寮步)成功入选《东莞市第六批市级非物质文化遗产代表性项目名录》。其开创性地将莞香和潮绣融合,形成了独具东莞特色的工艺美术项目。
Recently, the Dongguan government announced the "List of the 6th Batch of Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Projects in Dongguan". Chaozhou Style Embroidery (Liaobu) is named on the list.
Chaozhou Style Embroidery (Liaobu), or Liaobu Chao Embroidery, is a branch of Chaozhou Style Embroidery developed in Liaobu town, Dongguan. It carries forward the characteristics of traditional Chaozhou Style Embroidery, using gold and silver threads, embroidery floss, silk threads and other materials to embroider classic art with several stitch techniques such as "laying out", "lining", "sewing", and "studding".
Guanxiang is used in Liaobu Chao Embroidery.
Liaobu Chao Embroidery originated from Chaozhou Style Embroidery. It specializes in applying shims to silk, cotton and other fabrics with the above-mentioned stitch techniques. The embroidery has a relief effect with asymmetric structure and harmonious collocation of the pattern and fabric. Combined with the local cultural characteristics, Guanxiang is widely used in Liaobu Chao Embroidery, including padding material, yarn, silks and satins. The stitch techniques of lining and studding have widened the application of padding embroidery, making Liaobu Chao Embroidery distinct with its local characteristics.
"I think agarwood is full of cultural traditions, and Chaozhou Style Embroidery is a national intangible cultural heritage. The embroidered products of Chaozhou Style Embroidery have a relief effect, and at the same time, agarwood has a natural three-dimensional sense. So I would like to try to integrate the two cultures, using agarwood to replace the three-dimensional needlework. The combination of agarwood and embroidery gives the work a unique sense of arts and crafts." Cai Xiaoping, a representative of Liaobu Chao Embroidery, introduced.
Liaobu Chao Embroidery applies various embroidery and stitching techniques of Chaozhou Style Embroidery to exquisite Chinese wedding dresses, clothing, furniture accessories and other fields. It not only appears as a daily commodity but also becomes more popular, making more people know about traditional arts and crafts.
