The Greater Bay Area University will build two campuses in Dongguan, i.e. the Songshan Lake Campus and the Binhaiwan Bay Campus. The design scheme of the Songshan Lake Campus has been unveiled.
Located in the core area around Songshan Lake Science City, the Songshan Lake Campus is surrounded by various colleges and universities, large scientific devices, new R&D institutions, and high-tech enterprises, making it a fertile ground for integrating industry with innovative research practice. Via this platform, the campus will further implement the education mechanism of "science, education and industry cooperation" featuring "school + large scientific device (scientific research institution) + leading technology enterprise".
The Songshan Lake Campus will cover a construction area of about 170,000 square meters. The ingenious design retains the entire mountain and vegetation in the middle, forming the eco-core of the campus. The iconic building "Bay" is naturally formed around the core of the landscape. "Bay" symbolizes the open and enterprising campus spirit and highlights the broad and inclusive university temperament. It means the source of innovation and the harbor of talents. Its 3D curved shape perfectly fits the mountain landscape and harmoniously integrates with the ecological environment.
The design forms a pattern of "one core, one bay, two districts and dual axes", which meets the local climate needs and shows the international style. "One Core, One Bay" extends westward to the campus axis along "Chunhua Avenue", connecting the experimental teaching cluster spaces such as teaching, experiments, cultural and sports activities, and student dormitory. It extends eastward to the research axis along "Qushi Avenue", connecting the industry-university-research cluster spaces such as industry-research experiments, academic exchanges, and housing for teachers.
The campus axis extends westward to Dalingshan Town, while the research axis extends eastward to the TOD development plot. It guides the spatial axis to the Songshan Lake Reservoir. The overall pattern of the campus is harmoniously integrated with the external urban development.
