美国NIH高风险高投入高回报项目揭晓, 华人学者群星闪耀

近日，美国国家卫生研究院（NIH) 公布其2017年度高风险高投入高回报研究项目（High-Risk, High-Reward Research Program）, 资助86位极具创造力的学者运用高度创新的方法致力解决生物医学研究中所面临的主要挑战。该项目资助高度风险但具有极高影响潜力的原创研究，分为先锋基金（NIH Director’s Pioneer Award）、新锐基金（NIH Director’s New Innovator Award）、颠覆基金（NIH Director’s Transformative Research Award）、和启动基金（NIH Director’s Early Independence Award）四大类，其中有多名华人学者入围。
先锋基金
先锋基金建立于2004年，旨在 challenges investigators at all career levels to pursue new research directions and develop groundbreaking, high-impact approaches to a broad area of biomedical or behavioral science. 其直接经费5年共350万美金。今年共资助12名杰出学者，中国人比较熟悉的有斯坦福大学戴宏杰教授和MIT张锋教授，另外哈佛的Charles M. Lieber教授也入围。有意思的是，这12名学者除3人之外都来自哈佛、MIT，和斯坦福。

新锐基金
新锐基金建立与2007年，资助毕业10年青年学者 unusually innovative research，直接经费150万美金，今年共有55名青年学者活动资助，其中有8位华人学者。值得参考的是，这个项目只看毕业时间，而不看年龄。
Zhifei Chen，得克萨斯农工大学副教授。本科毕业于华东师范大学物理系，伊利诺伊大学香槟分校获得生物物理学博士学位，洛克菲勒大学博后，项目题目为 Artificial Ecology Sink as Prophylaxis Against Viral Infection.
Jingyi Fei，芝加哥大学助理教授。本科毕业于中国科学技术大学化学物理专业，在哥伦比亚大学化学系获得博士学位，伊利诺伊大学香槟分校博后。项目题目为 Quantitative Imaging of Epitranscriptomic Regulation Mediated by RNA Modification.
Bo Li，北卡教堂山分校助理教授。本科毕业于北京大学生物专业，在伊利诺伊大学香槟分校获得生物化学博士学位，哈佛医学院博后。项目题目为 Mining Genomes for Synergistic Antibiotics。
Lingyin Li，斯坦福大学医学院助理教授。本科毕业于中国科学技术大学化学与材料专业，在威斯康辛大学麦迪逊分校获得化学博士学位，哈佛医学院博后。项目题目为 Chemical Biology of Innate Immunity for Treating Cancer and Autoimmunity.
Hao Wu，宾夕法尼亚大学助理教授。本科毕业于清华大学生物系，在UCLA获得博士学位，哈佛大学博士后期间。项目题目为 Charting Oxygen-Sensing Gene Regulatory Network in Cardiomyocytes Through Single-Cell Analysis and Epigenome Editing.
Huanghe Yang，杜克大学医学院助理教授。本科毕业于郑州大学化学系，中科院大连化物所硕士，华盛顿大学生物医学工程博士，UCSF博后。项目题目为Manipulating TMEM16F Lipid Scramblase to Understand the Transbilayer Phospholipid Transport Phenomenon.
Yuebing Zheng，德克萨斯奥斯汀分校助理教授。宾夕法尼亚州立大学工程科学与力学博士，UCLA博后。项目题目为 On-Chip Multiplexed Adhesion Frequency Assay for Measuring Receptor-Ligand Interactions on Cells。
颠覆基金
颠覆基金设立于2009年，旨在 promotes cross-cutting, interdisciplinary approaches ... that could potentially create or challenge existing paradigms. 其预算上不封顶，上不封顶！今年有11名学者入围，其中两位亚裔，加州理工学院的Long Cai (左），华盛顿大学的 Daniel Chiu （右）。此外还有ACS Nano主编 Paul Weiss 的夫人，UCLA的 Anne Milasincic Andrews。
启动基金
启动基金设立于2011年，直接经费每年25万美元，资助5年，旨在 provides an opportunity for exceptional junior scientists who have recently received their doctoral degree or completed their medical residency to skip traditional post-doctoral training and move immediately into independent research positions。今年共资助11名青年学者。
