The Department of Languages and Literature of the University of Nicosia offers one (1) position for a 3-year full-time PhD in TESOL with particular emphasis on speech perception and production (of L2 English). There might be scholarship opportunities for suitable candidates. The PhD will be supervised by Dr Georgios (George) Georgiou, Assistant Professor in Linguistics, who has numerous publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals in the area of speech acquisition. Eligibility Critieria

- Accredited Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g., Humanities, Social Sciences and Education)
- Accredited Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Language/Linguistics, or any other relevant field
- At least one year of teaching experience
- English language proficiency (at least one of the following): IELTS 7.0 with at least 6.5 in each of the skills, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade B, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): Grade A, Pearson Test of English (Academic): 67 with a minimum of 60 in each of the four skills, TOEFL-Internet Based Test: total 100 (at least 23 in each module).

- a 1–2-page research proposal on a dissertation topic related to speech perception and production of L2 English (including the originality and importance, the aim, the methodology, and the expected findings).

We usually receive a large number of applications and therefore the selection will be made on a competitive basis. The program starts in Spring Semester 2023.
