Located in the beautiful coastal city of Zhuhai, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, jointly founded by Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Since its first enrolment in 2005, with the aim of serving China and the world, UIC has built a new model for liberal arts education in China by tapping into traditional Chinese and Western cultural resources. The college has established the Faculty of Business and Management, School of Culture and Creativity, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, School of General Education, in addition to the Graduate School. Altogether UIC offers 29 undergraduate programmes, and is approved to offer 9 research and 5 taught postgraduate programmes for over 9,000 students.

The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (hereinafter as “FHSS”) at UIC explores a broad range of specializations and represents one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of academic inquiry. The humanities & social science tradition examines all aspects of the fundamental philosophical questions about the human condition. The faculty degree programmes collectively explore both aesthetic and artistic concerns of the human spirit as well as the efforts of individuals, groups, organizations and institutions to improve the general welfare of all members of society.

Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Applied Translation Studies

Job DescriptionCandidates with expertise in the following areas: Computer-aided Translation and Translation Technology, Translation localization, Chinese-English Practical Translation, Putonghua-English Interpreting.Job RequirementCandidates should have a PhD degree or a Master degree with extensive working experience in a related discipline. Successful candidates are expected to be committed to excellence in undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and research.Preference will be given to candidates with industrial expertise, or demonstrable ability to undertake independent research leading to outcomes with a strong impact, such as publication in high quality, internationally recognized, indexed journals and scholarly presses. Academic rank will be determined in accordance with successful candidate’s experience and accomplishments. Candidates who have teaching and industrial experience in translation technology, localization, translation project management, interpreting and practical translation are to be favorably considered.Appointment TermsAppointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance.
