The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is appointing up to ten Chancellor’s Fellows, and as part of this process the School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences is inviting applications. 

Chancellor’s Fellowships are designed to support talented early career researchers to develop into a leading research-active academics at the University of Edinburgh.The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is appointing up to 10 Chancellor’s Fellows, who will have a demonstrable track record of innovative research, teaching and/or knowledge exchange, and the potential to make an outstanding contribution to furthering the University’s and the College’s strategic goals.As part of this process, the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is welcoming applications to roles based within its departments (and in particular to Psychology and Linguistics and English Language).All departments would be delighted to receive applications from researchers whose work fits within our existing research areas; however, we also encourage applicants to consider current School research themes detailed below:PsychologyWe would particularly welcome applications from researchers working in the following priority areas:

• Psychopathology, with a particular focus on adulthood
• Human cognitive psychology (especially those with a focus on memory)
• Social psychology, in particular those with experience of mixed methods

Linguistics and English LanguageWe would particularly welcome applications from researchers working in the following priority areas:

• Computational/corpus linguistics
• Endangered language

Your skills and attributes for success:

• A PhD in relevant subject area
• At least two years of postdoctoral experience at the time of application
• A recent record of high-quality publications and ability to undertake and contribute to world leading research within the discipline and subject area, by building and creating an independent research programme
• Experience and achievement in teaching, reflected in a personal teaching portfolio
• A positive and collegial attitude towards teaching and wider departmental responsibilities

When applying, it is essential that you attach:

1. A curriculum vitae, including: career/employment history and details of any career breaks, specifying the duration of any breaks in months; a summary of formal training and qualifications; relevant experience and evidence of recognition such as prizes and memberships of professional bodies and a list of publications/outputs. Please restrict the total length of the CV and outputs list to a maximum of 5 pages of A4.
2. A short covering letter.
3. A two-page outline of your proposed research programme, including: a research plan for the first 2-3 years highlighting the distinctive contribution of your research; details of any planned activities developing collaborations, partnerships and knowledge exchange; details of particular areas of alignment with the School, College and/or University research strategy; and an explanation of how this plan matches your track record (in terms of skills, experience and outputs).
