Language & Literacy Lab

The lab studies how children learn to speak and to read. Our studies include children who speak English and other languages with typical development, as well as those with language and reading difficulties. The goal of our research is to understand and improve learning outcomes for all learners.

教授介绍
Dr. Ioulia Kovelman is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Kovelman focuses on child language and literacy development, especially in bilingual children. As a developmental cognitive neuroscientist, Dr. Kovelman studies children’s language, literacy, and brain development using functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNRS). These studies include experiments with typically developing readers and at-risk learners such as those with dyslexia and developmental language disorders (DLD). In her current research, Dr. Kovelman focuses on bilingual children learning to speak and read in typologically distinct languages: Spanish, English, and Chinese. Through this work, she addresses the universal, language-specific, and bilingual influences on child reading development and dyslexia.

招募介绍
Bilingual Language & Literacy Lab at the University of Michigan has graduate and postdoctoral positions. We have two projects, one focused on Literacy and dyslexia in Chinese English bilinguals and one focused on Language and DLD in Spanish English bilinguals, using behavioral and fNIRS neuroimaging methods
with children ages 6-10.
