We, Debtors of the Highest Gratitude

    One Sunday, I was on the metro on the way to Church and after a few stops, I saw a man holding on tightly to his pregnant wife while getting on the metro slowly and carefully. As the couple got on the metro, I saw a teenage boy who was already seated looking at the pregnant woman and her husband. Within seconds, the boy suddenly stood up and gave his seat to the pregnant woman. I remarked him as a good boy in my mind.

What caught my attention was that the young boy continued looking at the pregnant woman and kept smilling. I wondered why the boy was smilling at the pregnant woman. Then a few minutes later, the boy said to his friend who was beside him,“ the pregnant woman reminds me of how mothers love even their unborn children inside their belly".  And the friend asked him, “why do you keep smilling at her?” the boy then replied, “because I now know how my mother struggled while I was inside her belly and how she cared about me”.

I felt a sudden joy about the boy’s simple but honest answer. The boy continued “although I did not know how my mother struggled with me while I was unborn, the pregnant woman's perseverance teaches me of how my own mother struggled with me while I was in her belly”.

The boy's words shocked both his friend and I. Then I said a big “Wow” because of his heartfelt love for his mother.

Fast forward, Sunday was Mothers’ Day and I saw a lot of people honoring their mothers. I saw some kids giving beautiful presents to their mothers and even married couples going back home to give respect to their parents.

I LOVE YOU MOM

 The students who are far from their homes were posting beautiful art or writings  in order to honor their mothers together with pictures of their mothers on social media.

Well, the truth is that it is not enough for us to honor our mothers only on Mothers’ Day and it is not enough for us to give back the biggest gratitude of our mothers only on that day.

Nothing in this world can ever be equated to our mothers love because mothers love for their children is incomparable.

You can even see how big the love of  mothers are when you look at animals.

Mothers only expect gratitude, love and respect from us, not cars, gold or money.

Loving our mothers is the biggest present that we can ever give to them. It is possible for us to make everyday “Happy Mother’s Day”.

Although today is not May 13th, Happy Mothers’ Day to my own mother and all mothers.
