【重点语法】
在句子中起宾语作用的从句叫作宾语从句。 宾语从句分为三类:动词的宾语从句、介词的宾语从句和形容词的宾语从句。
1.that 引导的宾语从句
陈述句充当宾语从句时, 由 that 引导。that 在从句中不充当成分, 只起连接作用,在非正式英语中可以省略。如:
He said (that) he would help me with my Physics.
他说他将帮助我学习物理。
I hope that yellow can bring me success.
我希望黄色能带给我成功。
形容词 certain,sure和 glad等后面也可以跟宾语从句。如:
I'm sure that Millie will come to our party.
我肯定米莉将会来参加我们的聚会。
当主句的主语是第一人称 I/we,谓语动词是 think,believe,suppose,expect 和 imagine等时,后面宾语从句的否定词要前移到主句中,即主句的谓语动词用否定式,而从句的谓语动词用肯定式。如:
I don't think I know you.
我想我并不认识你。
I don't believe he will come.
我相信他不会来。
注意:若主句的谓语动词为 hope,宾语从句中的否定词不能前移。如:
I hope you weren't ill.
我希望你没有生病。
若主句的谓语动词是 find,make 和 think 等,后面又带有复合宾语时,常用 it作形式宾语,而将实际的宾语从句置于宾语补足语之后。如:
I think it necessary that we will have a meeting tomorrow.
我想我们明天开个会是有必要的。
2.if 或 whether 引导的宾语从句
动词(短语) ask,see,wonder,find out,be not sure和 don't know等后面可以用一般疑问句充当宾语从句, 此时用 if 或whether 引导,且宾语从句要用陈述句语序。如:
I don't know whether/if he will come here tomorrow.
我不知道他明天是否会来这儿。
Millie asks whether/if she can come tomorrow.
米莉问她是否可以明天来。
if 和 whether 都有“是否”的意思,在引导宾语从句时一般可以通用, 但在or not 之前、介词之后、不定式之前、引导主语从句、引导表语从句、引导的宾语从句放在句首时,只能用 whether。如:
Do you know whether they are leaving for Nanjing or not tomorrow? (or not 之前)
你知道他们明天是否会动身去南京吗?
I don't know whether or not you will go. (or not 之前)
我不知道你是否会去。
I'm thinking about whether we'll have a meeting.(介词之后)
我正在考虑我们是否需要开个会。
He doesn't know whether to go.(不定式之前)
他不知道是否要去。
Whether we go there is not decided.(引导主语从句)
我们是否去那里还没决定。
The question is whether we can get there on time(引导表语从句)
问题是我们能否按时到达那里。
Whether you have met George before, I can't remember.(引导的宾语从句放在句首)
我不记得你以前是否见过乔治。
if 还可以作“如果”讲,引导条件状语从句,不能用 whether 替换,且主句时态用一般将来时,从句时态用一般现在时。如:
Millie will come to see the show if it doesn't rain tomorrow.
如果明天不下雨,米莉将会来观看演出。

Hold your head up high
I was 15 months old, a happy and carefree kid, until the day I fell. It was a bad fall. I landed on a piece of glass that cut my eye badly. From then on, my injured, sightless, cloudy gray eye lived on with me.
Sometimes people asked me embarrassing(使人难堪的) questions. Whenever kids played games, I was the "monster". I was always imagining that everyone looked down on(瞧不起) me.
Yet Mum would say to me, "Hold your head up high and face the world. "I began to depend on that saying.
As a child, l thought Mum meant, "Be careful, or you will fall down or bump into something because you are not looking." As a teenager, I usually looked down to hide my shame. But I found that when I held my head up high, people liked me.
