Flow gently, sweet Afton 甜美的阿芙敦河慢慢流
这是罗伯特·彭斯的诗作，音乐家J.E.Spilman为他谱了曲，成为一支名曲。
罗伯特·彭斯，苏格兰诗人，《Auld Lang Syne》就是彭斯的作品，如今全世界都在唱。
50年代，国际上每年纪念一些世界文化名人，有一年纪念过彭斯（罗伯特·彭斯，1759 – 1796，应该是在1959年纪念诞辰200年）。有一年纪念过关汉卿。

Flow gently, sweet Afton, amang thy green braes
Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise
My Mary's asleep by thy murmuring stream
Flow gently, sweet Afton, disturb not her dream.
Though stock-dove whose echo resounds from the hill
Ye wild whistling blackbirds in yon thorny dell
Thou green created lapwing, thy screaming for bear
I charge you, disturb not my slumbering fair.
How lofty, sweet Afton, thy neighbouring hills
Far marked with the courses of clear winding rills
There daily I wander, as morn rises high
My flocks and my Mary's sweet cot in my eye.
How pleasant thy banks and green valleys below
Where wild in the woodlands the primroses blow
There oft, as mild evening creeps over the lea
The sweet scented birk shades my Mary and me.
Thy crystal stream, Afton, how lovely it glides
And winds by the cot where my Mary resides
How wanton thy waters her snowy feet lave
As gathering sweet flow'rets, she stems thy clear wave.

甜美的阿芙敦河，沿着碧绿的山坡，慢漫地流！
悠悠地流，我要唱支歌来赞美您；
我的玛丽，正在偎倚您那潺潺的溪流熟睡，

野鸠啊，你的回声萦绕山谷，
野山鸟啊，在荆棘丛中低语，

远处有几条小溪，澄澈蜿蜒;
在那儿我每天徘徊，正当午阳高挂，
我的羊群和玛丽的可爱茅屋，尽入我的眼帘。
您的两岸跟青翠峡谷多么幽美，
那边的林野，开遍了樱草花;
时常，当柔和的黄昏低垂，沾湿了草原，
芬芳的桦树，荫遮看玛丽和我。
晶莹的阿芙敦河，渥暖流得多么可爱，
纡曲绕过玛丽住的小屋边，
您俏皮的水花逗着她雪白的秀足，
当她采集飘香的小花瓣，拦阻您那清澈的柔波。
甜美的阿芙敦河，沿着碧绿的山坡，缓缓地流，
悠悠流，甜美的阿芙敦河，您是我诗歌的主题;
我的玛丽正在熟睡，偎倚您那絮絮细语的河畔，
悠悠地流吧，亲爱的阿芙敦河，请别将她惊醒。
