香港HKPFS奖学金计划旨在吸引世界各地优秀的学生来港就读博士课程。该奖学金将为获奖的博士研究生提供每年港币301,200元(约38,600美元)的津贴，及每年港币12,600元(约1,600美元)的会议及研究活动交通津贴，为期三年。对于入读本系正常修读年限为四年的获奖者，香港中文大学将按此标准提供第四年的奖金。中文大学社会学系现有五名获得该奖学金的在读博士生，详见本系网站：http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/soc/MPhil-PhD/en/people.html。
香港博士研究生獎學金計劃
背景
研究資助局於2009年成立「香港博士研究生獎學金計劃」。此項計劃旨在吸引世界各地優秀的研究生，來港在受教資會資助大學修讀以研究為本的博士學位課程。
申請資格
凡有志報讀香港受教資會資助大學全日制博士學位研究課程的人士，不論國籍、工作經驗和種族背景，均可申請。申請者須具備出色的學術表現、優秀的研究能力/潛質、良好的溝通技巧及卓越的領導才能。
計劃內容
獎學金將為獲獎的博士研究生提供每年港幣301,200元(約38,600美元)的津貼，及每年港幣12,600元(約1,600美元)的會議及研究活動交通津貼，為期三年。於2019/20學年1 將會選250名獲獎申請人。如獲獎者修讀年期多於三年，大學可提供額外資助，詳情請向有關大學查詢。
1 香港各大學的學年一般於每年九月開始
遴選小組
經甄選的所有申請均會按照其學科範疇，由相關的遴選小組進行評選。遴選小組由各學科的專家組成，主要分為兩大學科範疇，其中一個小組負責科學、醫學、工程及科技等學科，而另一小組則負責人文學、社會科學及商科等學科。
評選準則
雖然卓越的學業成績是評選時的先決條件，但遴選小組亦會根據以下四項標準，作為本計劃的主要評選準則﹕
學術表現；
研究能力/潛質；
溝通技巧，及
領導才能。
申請程序
申請人最多可選擇兩所大學開辦之全日制博士學位研究式課程。所有本獎學金計劃的申請人亦必須直接向有關大學遞交入學申請。申請人必須符合有關大學及課程的入學要求。 「香港博士研究生獎學金計劃 2019/20」於2018年9月1日開始接受申請，詳情請瀏覽 http://www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd (只提供英文版)。

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme
Background
Established in 2009 by the Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programmes in Hong Kong's universities.
Eligibility
Those who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in Hong Kong universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.
Fellowship Award
The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$301,200 (approximately US$38,600) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$12,600 (approximately US$1,600) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years. 250 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2019/20 academic year1. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support maybe provided by the chosen universities. For details, please contact the universities concerned directly.

Selection Panels
Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the two HKPFS Selection Panels with experts in the relevant broad areas -- one for Science, Medicine, Engineering and Technology and another one for Humanities,Social Science and Business Studies.
Selection Criteria
While academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Selection Panels will take into account, but not limited to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates:
Academic excellence;
Research ability and potential;
Communication and interpersonal skills; and
Leadership abilities.
Application Process
Applicants may choose up to two programmes in one or two universities for PhD study in their HKPFS applications. They are also required to submit application(s) for PhD admission to the relevant university(ies) directly for their selected programme(s). Applicants are therefore required to fully comply with the admission requirements of their selected universities and programmes.
The HKPFS 2019/20 calls for applications on 1 September 2018. Details on application procedures are available at http://www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd .
