会议主题
南京大学艺术学院与台湾夏荆山文化艺术基金会近日合作成立“夏荆山研究中心”。研究中心拟于2019年6月举办第一届荆山论坛·佛教图像文化学研讨会。
佛教在历史上的发展,始终保持着自身的文化维度。作为文化的佛教,为人类提供精神文化并留下了宝贵的历史资料。随着近几十年来考古学、文物学、图像学的发展,历史中的图像逐步作为重要的资料进行相关研究活动的开展,得到了极大的关注。
“图像文化学”将从文化学的角度解读各种图像,特别是图像的文化意蕴,以及文化的发展对于图像的影响等重要问题。通过图像来探讨宗教文化、佛教文化的演变、传播、结构、功能、本质,文化的共性与个性、不同文化之间彼此融合发展等问题。
主旨及目的
台湾著名艺术家夏荆山毕生致力于中国传统书画、佛画艺术创作,堪称近百年来中国佛画领域最具代表性的国宝级大师。他于1970 年代末,自费修缮山西、山东、河北等地诸多古寺之文物,于1994 年创办“荆山画院”,无偿办学,亲授书画达二十年。其画作承先启后,行谊足称典范。
夏荆山研究中心将长期举办“荆山论坛”,旨在弘扬中国传统文化和宗教艺术,推动两岸学界对中国传统艺术、佛教艺术,特别是对夏荆山艺术作品和创作理念的系统性研究,丰富中国传统艺术及中华文化的内涵,加强两岸以及海外学术文化的交流。

(2) 宗教艺术的文化视域
(3) 中国传统美术与佛教文化关系研究
(4)艺术家夏荆山生平行谊及其书画作品为主题之定位、分析、论述、哲理探讨
研究资助
会议投稿,以“艺术家夏荆山生平行谊及其书画作品为主题之定位、分析、论述、哲理探讨”为专题、且正式入选本次研讨会的论文,主办方将提供论文作者3000元人民币研究资助。

参会形式
(1)遵循“以文参会”的原则,参会者需提交一篇围绕研讨会主题,且未公开发表的学术论文。
(2)有意参会者请填写《参会回执信息表》(附件1),提交参会论文题目、摘要(300字左右)、关键词等信息,并于2019年3月01日之前将《参会回执信息表》发至会议指定邮箱,会务组将根据回执予以回复确认。
(3)投稿论文全文提交截止日期:2019年03月15日(逾期不再收稿,请发至会议指定邮箱),所提交论文将由承办单位组织专家评审,论文审核通过者,组委会将在2018年4月上旬以电邮方式统一寄发正式邀请函。
(4)会前将编印论文集,论文撰写规范要求:请以论文题目(中英文)、作者(单位、省市、邮编)、摘要、关键词、正文、参考文献或注释(一律采用页下脚注)等顺序排版,个人简介及照片(300字左右)附于文后。

Call For Paper
THEME
At the end of 2018, Xia Jing Shan Arts & Culture Foundation launchs the Xia Jing Shan Academy in collaboration with School of Fine Arts, Nanjing University. Xia Jing Shan Academy will hold the 1ST JING SHAN FORUM Cultural Studies on Buddhist Iconography Conference in Nanjing, China in June, 2019.
Buddhism has deeply shaped Chinese culture in various ways including art, literature, philosophy, politics and material culture. With the development of Archaeology, study of Cultural Relics and Iconography, not only the recognition and function of Buddhism images but also the decorative contexts varied over history, has been considerable scholarly aware recently.
“Cultural Iconography ” is the identification, description, and the interpretation of the content of images and icons from cultural perspectives especially cultural development impact on the images and icons and the meaning behind them. This forum seeks to discuss not only the evolution, transmission, construction, function and essence of religious culture and Buddhism culture through studies on images and icons, but also cultural commonality and culture fusion through interaction with different cultures.
Subject and Purpose
Xia Jing Shan is a Chinese Buddhist art virtuoso that spans across centuries. Xia devotes himself to Chinese painting, calligraphy and Buddhist art in his whole life. He moved to the United States in 1970, where he actively promotes Chinese culture. As he continued to acquire extensive knowledge on Buddhism, Xia then made the decision to work with Buddhist stories as the central theme of his art. He also assisted with the restoration work at many distinguished Buddhist temples in China.
To gain the understanding and an awareness of Buddhist Art and Philosophy behind Chinese paintings and Calligraphy and promote cross strait cultural and academic exchange, Xia Jing Shan Academy will hold Jing Shan Forum once annually.
Maestro Xia Jing Shan’s calligraphy and painting style inherits from iconic classics, but is also innovated with his own extensive studies and experiences. Therefore, Xia Jing Shan Academy will aim to contextualize Xia’s theories by analyzing and organizing the style and contents of Xia Jing Shan’s art to provide insights on the epochal significance embodied in his calligraphy and paintings.

(1) Cultural Interpretations of icons and images drawn from Buddhist Art and Cultural Iconography
(2) Cultural Perspectives on Religious Art
(3) Relationship between Traditional Chinese Art and Buddhism
(4) Study on Maestro Xia Jing Shan and his paintings and Calligraphy arts: art historical status analysis and discussion.
Research Subsidy Fund
If the submitter’s paper related to the topic of Study on Maestro Xia Jing Shan and his paintings and Calligraphy arts: art historical status analysis and discussion, and paper has passed the selection process and selected in conference, Committee will give the author RMB 3,000 as subsidy for research outputs of authors.

Submission Requirements
(1) Applicants must present empirical or theoretical papers on the topic of the conference by focusing on the following sub-themes, issues and/or phenomena or other topics relevant to the theme of the conference. A published paper is not acceptable.
(2) Please submit your Registration form (appendix 1) with Abstracts and Keywords of approximately 300 words to xjsnjuart@163.com before 1st March 2019 (GMT+8). Committee will send an application response letter to applicant to confirm your registration.
(3) The Deadlines for Submitting is midnight 15th March 2019(GMT+8). Please submit your paper to xjsnjuart@163.com. Submissions must be prepared for
anonymous refereeing and further reviewed by the Editor. Accepted papers will be informed by an official confirmation letter by Email.
(4) Submitted papers must include a topic (submitted in Chinese and English), text, author (job title, city, province), abstract, keywords, references or footnotes, the bibliography of approximately 300 words with photo attached.
