The China-U.S. Forum on the Research and Teaching of Chinese Language and Culture at the College Level (The 2nd Xiamen University-Purdue University International Forum on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language), hosted by Xiamen University, will be held on December 10th-11th, 2022 at Xiamen University. The forum aims to promote research on the theory and share best practices of teaching Chinese language and culture among U.S. and Chinese faculty teaching at the college level, facilitate disciplinary development and skills training for international Chinese education, and strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation among the U.S. and Chinese university teachers, scholars, and experts. The forum is jointly organized by the Chinese International Education College (Overseas Education College) at Xiamen University and the School of Languages and Cultures at Purdue University, and co-organized by Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd., and Chinese Plus with a combination of both online and offline platforms. We are now calling for abstracts of papers and looking forward to contributions from scholars as well as teaching professionals as we explore opportunities, challenges, and trends of Chinese language teaching in China and the U.S., thereby advancing our profession.

The forum will be held on December 10th-11th, 2022 with registration on December 9th, 2022.

Program and Topics
The forum will consist of a series of themed events, including keynote speeches, symposiums, and workshops.
The main topics of the forum include but are not limited to the following:
Development and research of distance or hybrid courses and flipped classroom
Design and research of Chinese language/culture study abroad programs
Pragmatics in teaching Chinese as a Second Language (CSL)
Chinese Proficiency Assessment Standards for International Chinese Language Education and HSK Test
Computer-assisted/distance Chinese language/culture teaching and learning
Teacher training and professional development for MA students concentrating on teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages
Chinese philology and CSL
Cultural and cross-cultural communication in CSL
Experts and scholars in the field of Chinese language education, Chinese language teaching professionals, and graduate students are welcome to participate in the forum. Those who are interested in becoming official presenters, we expect to review your submissions.

Requirements for the
submission of abstracts
The forum welcomes the following two types of abstracts that are closely related to the theme: reports of empirical studies and results or proposals for research collaboration
Abstracts may be submitted in either Chinese or English. Please submit a one-A4 page abstract with 300-600 words under the title of “Abstract of Research Report” which includes a research overview, implementation schedule, and results. Please provide the author’s information, including name, affiliation, email address, and phone number, which will be collected for compiling the directory of attendees.
For research collaboration proposals, please submit a one-A4 page abstract ( i.e., research overview, an implementation plan, expected results, and the nature of the collaboration, no word limit) under the title of “Abstract of Research Proposal”. Please provide the author’s information, including name, affiliation, email address, and phone number, which will be collected for compiling the directory of attendees.
Abstracts of research reports will be compiled in an electronic form. The full texts of the research reports in the forum that satisfy the publishing criteria will be published, with the consent of the authors, in a special issue of the academic journal Overseas Chinese Education.
The organizers will provide dinner on Dec 9th, lunch and dinner on Dec 10th, and lunch on Dec 11th. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodation.

Chinese participants are expected to send their abstracts with the email subject heading of “Research Paper Abstract of the Forum” to Professor Zhu Yu from the Chinese International Education College (Overseas Education College of Xiamen University) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
he organizing committee will form a panel to review the abstracts anonymously. The acceptance notification will be sent to the email of the submitter before or on October 15th, 2022. Submitters whose abstracts are accepted and who attend the forum may request a certificate of participation from the organizing committee.
