ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Since opening its door in 2009, Peking University Summer School International (PKUSSI) has experienced burgeoning growth thanks to the dedication of PKU faculty and staff, as well as the participation of faculty and students from all over the world.
Aiming to provide international students with an accessible and high-quality platform to understand China, we tap into the brilliant pool of the university's faculty, and its international network of experts, to develop and offer a portfolio of courses that include the humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary studies.
Influenced by the global spread of COVID-19 and the measures taken to prevent and control it, in order to ensure that the teaching fulfills our high standards, PKUSSI 2020 will be offered as a comprehensive online program.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Distinguished Faculty – Most of the courses are taught by professors, or by associate or assistant professors with excellent teaching records.
Multiple Choices – Durations of courses ranging from 2-4 weeks, combination of course credits up to 6 credits, and course subjects covering economics, international and regional studies, humanities and social sciences.
Program Certificate and Official Transcript - will be provided upon successful completion of the program.
Online Platforms and Technical Support –Canvas, Zoom, Classin, and Tencent Meeting etc. will be used to support smooth teaching during the program.

Applied Econometrics

An economic major course first-time launched for PKUSSI. Prof. QIN Xuezheng has a rich experience of teaching economics for PKU and international students. This course will provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the econometric modeling tools used in empirical economic research.
China in the Global Economy

A popular choice in the past PKUSSI sessions. The course will introduce about the global economic structure, Chinese economic reform as well as the implications of Chinese economic reform on the global economy.
China's Original International Strategy: the Belt and Road Initiatives

A highly-rated PKUSSI course. Drawing from his own experiences on BRI-related research projects, Prof. ZHAI Kun helps the students to understand BRI's strategic nature, strategic decision making, strategic implementation, and strategic management. Students may also have the opportunities to participate in the real construction of BRI under the professor's guidance.
Media and Society in China

A highly-rated PKUSSI course. This course aims to familiarize the students with the developments traditional and new media in China. It will also look into the process and impact of China's interaction with the outside world in the realm of media and communication, including international media coverage about china and how the outside world is covered by Chinese correspondents.
Introduction to Chinese Economy

A PKUSSI classical course. The course will provide you an overview of China's rapid process of the economic growth and structural transformation in an international perspective.
Environmental Challenges and Sustainable Development in China
Prof. ZHENG Mei

An environmental course firstly launched for PKUSSI. Prof. ZHENG Mei will guide the students to examine key issues and topics that are related to environmental pollution in China and discuss sustainable pathways, based on her research projects and findings on China's environmental issues.
The Rise of China and Change in World Politics

A time-honored, highly recommended PKUSSI course. This seminar course is intended for students to examine major issues and topics concerning the rise of China from a broad theoretical perspective, and to engage in the academic discourse and policy debate about implications of China's rise for world politics. A new chapter of the Covid-19 Pandemic is included to provide the students with an updated view on the subject.
Modern Chinese Fiction through Film

A traditional and popular PKUSSI course. The course integrates the printed text (fiction) and media text (film), teaching Chinese culture through literature and multimedia. Both teaching with and teaching about multimedia are used during the course.
