Hi, I'm David! Today, let me tell you about the Tokyo Olympic Games!
But first, do you know the origin of the Olympics?
The roots of today’s Olympic Games date back to the ancient Olympic Games, held 2,800 years ago. Also known as the "Olympiad", the event took place in the Olympia region of ancient Greece.
There are various opinions regarding its origins. It is said that the event was an athletic and artistic festival dedicated to the worship of the gods.
Then 1,500 years later in 1892, a French educator named Baron Pierre began the Olympic revival movement. Pierre's idea to reinstate the Olympic Games was presented to the audience at the international congress in Paris, 1894, and his proposal was unanimously approved.
Two years later the unforgettable first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, the homeland of the ancient Olympic Games.
The five rings — the well-known symbol of the Olympic Games — were also created by Pierre, to express the solidarity of the world's five continents.
The Olympics first came to Japan in 1964.
On October 10, 1964, the Games of the XVIII Olympiad began with the Opening Ceremony at Kasumigaoka National Stadium. 5,133 athletes from 93 nations and regions demonstrated their exceptional abilities in 163 events across 20 sporting competitions.
What was significant about the Tokyo Olympics in 1964?
Well, the answer is, It was the first-ever Olympic Games held in Asia and an enormous success. In conjunction with this momentous event, Tokyo experienced dramatic developments in its post-war infrastructure.

This year, the Olympics come back to Tokyo again!
What’s new this time?
Actually, there are many many new things this time!
Anime lovers can't miss this Olympics!
Japan has a very popular anime culture. This time, many anime figures are incorporated into the Olympic games. Perhaps in the opening ceremony, you also can see your favorite cartoon!
And also, In recent years,more and more people attach importance to the environment and sustainability. This has also become one of the important issues of concern, in the Olympics.
Environment-friendly will be an important theme of the Tokyo Olympics. Renewable and recyclable resources will be used as much as possible.
For example. At the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Japan will use scrap metal recycled from mobile phones and other electronic devices to make medals for athletes.
The third point is something a lot of people are excited for.
New Sports!
Five new sports are added to the Olympics. Including surfing, skateboarding, karate, climbing, and baseball.
I’m so looking forward to it!Expect athletes to shine in these sports!
Because of the pandemic, many people are concerned about whether the games will go ahead.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially confirmed on 24 March that the games would be postponed to ensure people's health. Then, on March 30 IOC officially confirmed that the Olympics will be celebrated from 23 July until 8 August 2021.
The postponed Olympic Games will retain the titles of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and paralympic games.
May the pandemic end soon, believing we will finally United By Emotion, as the motto of Tokyo Olympic Games says.
