Happy Teacher's Day, our dearest teachers!

PekingUniversity PekingUniversity 2022-09-15

Editor's Note

They lead us through the darkness of ignorance, casting a bright light onto our world.

They set up examples for us to follow, teaching us to be patriotic, upright, and kind.

They are the people we look up to, the people we strive to become.

They are our dearest and most beloved teachers.

Today is Teachers' Day.

Let us express our gratitude from the bottom of our hearts to our teachers.

2022年9月10日是第38个教师节。

今天,和小北一起听听大家想对老师们说的心里话,将千言万语化为最真挚的一声:教师节快乐

He is the "father" of thousands of left-behind children, and my best "teacher"

In 2017, my dad received a certificate of honor from the Anhui Department of Education, which reads, "You have devoted yourself to rural education for two decades and have contributed greatly to the development of rural education in our province, and are hereby awarded this certificate."

As a child, I would always see my father leaving for school early in the morning, not returning till it's dark out, and staying up late all the time to prepare for lessons. When I went to school, my father went deep into the mountains to teach his students, and minus the time he spent travelling, he barely managed to enjoy a weekend at home. I still remember how every winter, my father would worry about the snow not melting in the mountains, in which case he wouldn't be able to travel to the school, so sometimes he simply stayed at school instead of coming back home. I knew that my dad could endure homesickness, but he couldn't miss a day of school.

He cared not only about the children's education, but also the children's well-being. He taught me that a father does his best to show the best to his children, to be kind, to be selfless, to be a teacher, to teach by example. I want to take this opportunity to say to my dad and all the great teachers, "Thank you for your hard work!"

He brought me a spray of sunshine that I still bathe in.

Mr. Pryszwitt was my chemistry teacher back in high school, but he was more than that. He taught me humility, integrity, and most importantly, courage

When I first arrived in high school, since I was a newcomer in town, I was alone most of the time. I went to classes alone, sat by myself during lunch, and pretty much talked only when someone approached me. My shyness was often neglected, but Mr. Pryszwitt noticed, and he was the one who allowed me to stay over during times when the loneliness seemed almost unbearable.

Gradually I started feeling comfortable around school, and talked to people more often. Before I knew it, I started to have people accompanying me to school events, and got invited to social gatherings. Mr. Pryszwitt always told me, "Part of life is connecting with others. Get out there and don't be afraid to make acquaintances, people who stick with you are those who truly appreciate you for who you are." This has been part of my life motto up to now, and Mr. Pryszwitt is a key reason why I'm a happier person than I was before.

Happy Teachers' Day, Professor Levene!

I met Prof. Levene in his Business Associations class. At the time, I was a bit uncomfortable and overwhelmed by the 50-60 pages of cases and the Socratic cold call in class. However, Prof. Levene offered help generously, encouraging us to be bravely answer questions in English instead of being afraid of making mistakes.

In his class, "Staying curious and daring to explore the legal principles behind a case precedent is far more important and precious than giving a so-called correct answer." I hope the pandemic will end soon and everyone can return to campus, then I would be able to say "Long time no see!" to the professor we haven't seen for a while. Finally, we would like to wish Prof. Levene, who is currently in the US, "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Happy Teachers' Day!"

Prof. Liu is not only my academic mentor, but also my life mentor.

When I first listened to one of Ms. Liu's pathology classes online, I was immediately attracted by her in-depth yet accessible lessons. While Ms. Liu is always strict on academic issues, she cares for her students wholeheartedly

I still remember before I presented my thesis proposal, Ms. Liu went through my slides page by page, paying attention to every detail, and discussed them with me repeatedly. As a pathologist, Ms. Liu has developed unique insights on complex consultation cases, and she always encourages us to keep updating our knowledge base.

For me, Ms. Liu's charisma truly inspires me to move forward more optimistically, so I chose to pursue a PhD in pathology after graduating with a master degree and continue to pursue my own happiness. Today is Teachers' Day, I would like to say to Ms. Liu that I am grateful to be your student and grow gradually under your guidance and help. I wish you a happy Teachers' Day. Wishing you all the best in work, health, and life, also, stay beautiful forever!
