Tainted Japanese products being sold in GD
Wednesday(Mar. 15th) was World Consumer Rights Day and to mark the day China Central Television (CCTV) broadcast an annual program revealing shady cases and scams that violate consumer rights. This year, they included the online sale on some cross-border e-commerce platforms of imported Japanese food from radioactive areas, discovered by the Shenzhen Market Supervision Administration in September of 2016. The possibly radioactive products include milkpowder, cereal, rice and wine. It is estimated that there are over 13,000 online stores selling food from nuclear polluted areas.
Muji, a Japanese grocery store brand in Shenzhen was also caught by Local authorities selling food from polluted areas in Japan. The true places of origin were covered by Chinese labels simply stating Japan as the country of origin. The same labelling was found on rice in an AEON supermarket and Shenzhen is conducting a large-scale crackdown/cleanup campaign against the tainted food.
