China to launch 5-year working visas


 In promising news for expats working in China, foreigners may no longer need to reapply for work permits every year thanks to a new pilot program that was announced by the Ministry of Public Security last week stating that foreigners who have worked legally in China for two consecutive years will be eligible to apply for a 5-year working permit.



The change follows other recent announcements including the alterations to the current work permit application process whereby applicants are classified into different categories based on allocated points. The pilot program will be rolled out across 9 cities and provinces over the next couple of months.

 

GZ to become more attractive for international investment and development

 

The Guangzhou government has signed a series of investment and cooperation deals with China's large financial institutions.They include the China Reform Fund, China Galaxy Securities and China Huadian Corporation. As a result, it is expected that large-scale projects covering big data, energy and the intelligent equipment manufacturing industries will be attracted to Guangzhou. Guangzhou also signed a four-party agreement on building an international campus for the South China University of Technology. All of these moves are expected to make Guangzhou more attractive to international investment and global enterprises. 

GZ welcomes ninth new international flight this year

 

Malindo Air launched a direct flight between Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Mar. 16th). This officially marks the ninth new international route for the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport this year. Malindo Air is a low cost airline that resulted from a merge between Malaysian National Aviation and Defense Industy Co. And Malindo Air from Indonesia.

 

My Guangdong to talk to Lilian Thuram


Lilian Thuram, one of the greatest defenders in the history of football, will be guest on My Guangdong next week, one of the programs produced by Guangdong Radio and Television’s Radio English Service. On Monday(Mar. 20th) and Tuesday(Mar. 21st) he will visit Guangzhou as part of the Francophonie Festival currently being held across China.
