Domestic tourism market booms over May Day holiday


China's domestic tourism market continues to grow as the May Day holiday saw scores of holidaymakers set off for domestic destinations for the long weekend, according to statistics that were released by the National Tourism Administration on Monday(May 1st). Compared to last year, profits were up 16.2%, bringing in a total of 79.1 billion yuan nationwide. Tourist numbers were also up by 14.4% with a whopping 134 million tourists visiting domestic attractions. The tourism industry is continually considered an engine for growth as the Chinese economy moves away from its reliance on exports and manufacturing.

 

Boom times not over for Shenzhen


Shenzhen has long been known as a boom town thanks to its evolution from a fishing village to a sprawling metropolis in the 1980's, and it seems that the good times are far from over. The city recorded a GDP growth rate of 8.6%, compared to the same period of last year in the first quarter of 2017, with total GDP climbing to 458.4 billion yuan. This growth topped all PRD cities, and even eclipsed all other first-tier cities in China. Much of the growth is thanks to the city's rapidly expanding technology and innovation sectors.


Glide test for amphibious plane in Zhuhai


The city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province recently witnessed the successful initial glide test of China's large amphibious aircraft, the AG600, on Saturday (April 29). The plane was designed to be the world's largest amphibious aircraft with a wingspan of 38.8 meters and a maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tons. The plane is also capable of collecting 12 tons of water in 20 seconds and transporting up to 370 tons of water on a single tank of fuel. The plane will be used for fighting forest fires as well as marine rescues, environmental monitoring and protection. Further checks and tests are currently underway and its maiden flight will occur in late May.

China Southern announces aircraft purchase


China Southern Airlines announced recently that it had ordered 20 Airbus Industrie A350-XWB wide-bodied aircraft for use on its international routes. The aircraft will join China Sothern’s extensive fleet of over 300 Airbus types, including the A320 short-haul model, the A330 series, and the giant A380 aircraft.
Tang Wengeng, president of China Southern, said "With its long range capability, economic fuel consumption and spacious cabin, the A350-XWB is the ideal choice for our international long-haul routes."
