Rare tornado causes power outages in GZ district
According to the official Weibo account belonging to the Guangzhou City Emergency Warning Information Release Center last night, a rare tornado appeared in Conghua District of Guangzhou yesterday, at around 7:25 pm.
Though the scale of the tornado was quite small, with the nearest weather station recording gusts of around 12.6 meters per second, during the three minutes after it had formed through to when it petered out, the tornado brought about power outages, caused temporary scaffolding to collapse, and resulted in damage to some trees.
The power outages caused by the tornado affected around 5,400 households, but electricity supply had been mostly reinstated by around 9 pm, while Line 14 of the Guangzhou Metro also resumed normal operations.
